Revisiting Space: 1999...

Having already seen the original it would be fun to see an reimagined update to it. I've watched a number of unofficial "fan edits" over the years and it is fun to see movies you know reinterpreted in a new way.

I've seen a few. I am often disappointed with the result.

I used to watch some of the edits done on Space 2099s web page, whatever happened to them? Was it closed down due to legal reasons or what? I still prefer the original to be honest!

I thought it looked fantastic and still looks pretty good. The cast were good and it was mostly let down by the plot and writing.

What I've often wished is that Anderson had made Blakes 7, which had fantastic writing but looked like it was made by an eight year old in it's parents garage...

I watched a few episodes of Space: 1999 a while back on Hulu. I thought it was pretty good. Some of the episodes were a little strange, but that seemed to be part of the charm.

The things is, it was teeming with ideas. Some of them not as good as the others but on the whole it was very good. I wish the writers of ENT for example were as imaginative.

Depends if Anderson would have been able to fund it such a production. Think both of UFO and Space:1999 both had American money backing them (for the later is was part of how they wound with Landau and Bain - to the chagrin of the Andersons over time)

What was wrong with Landau and Bain?

I love this show. I watched it from behind a big, safe chair like I did with Trek back in the seventies. They were less scary that way.

I find season one had better episodes, but season two had my favourite characters, Tony & Miya, and I liked the uniforms more. The base and Eagles were wonderfully designed, and things like the com-locks were well thought out. Plus, it has some great space monsters!

The attention to detail was just amazing.

Yes, Bain was rather wooden... Ok, really, really wooden. I didn't mind Landau, but at least Barry Morse and Nick Tate brought some humanity to that first season.

From Agony Booth's review of Space: 1999 “Breakaway”
Bain is playing Dr. Helena Russell, the base’s chief medical officer. Actually, “playing” might be too strong a word. She just stands there, speaking in a whisper without any inflection or emotion in her voice whatsoever. And I’m not talking about this one scene. She goes through the entire series like this.

This isn’t a screencap. It’s an eight minute video.
