Hi all, Welcome to the new Avatar Contest.

This weeks theme is What a Trip!

What else is April known for? 420, of course! This contest is asking you to post your favorite, least favorite, most intriguing, or downright wacky mind or mood altering substance in SF & F media. It could be your character's favorite Earl Grey Tea, Raktajino or Earth Coffee -- or it could be an alcohol or synthahol drink. It could be an herbal or chemical substance, or something unheard of in our world.

The point is the food or drink, not the show, novel, or comic book. So Star Trek obviously has dozens of examples as do other long running franchises. This is not an endorsement of real world substances so, while I'll accept cocktails or caffeinated drinks, other "real world" illegal drugs are not acceptable, nor are any depictions of addiction or dependency.

EDIT: Thanks to a catch from the G-Man, I should note that cannabis is not considered an "illegal" drug for the purposes of this contest.

I really liked Orac's recent posting rule. It kept me coming back for more to see what people were posting each day. You may enter as often as you wish; but only one avatar a day. I'll make my first post on Friday.

Standard avatar contest rules:

Max image size 200x200px

Max file size 1mb

Bane gets his physical prowess from the Venom* drug; Batman: The Animated Series

*obviously unrelated to the Marvel character of the same name.

ONLY ENTRY (maybe:

Time-Trax-TXP-S01E00.gif

"Time Trax" (specifically from the feature-length pilot)

If it counts...

So what's happening here is a prisoner who assassinated the world President, is in a high-security prison. He licks an envelope. Mixed in with the sticky envelop stuff is a substance known as TXP -- which stabilizes the body's molecules or some such thing, allowing it to be ready for time travel.

(NOTE: Image set to auto-delete after one year)

Jem'Hadar warriors get their dose of ketracel-white; DS9: To the Death
Did they need ketracel-white biologically or had they become addicted to it.
Regardless, I'll allow this one because it is not promoting drug abuse which was the reason I didn't want to allow addiction in the first place.

Well, they were genetically engineered to need it, and there was at least one case of a Jem'Hadar who had a mutation that allowed his body to produce its own white, so there was obviously a biological dependency. We're told, though, that Starfleet technology could not replicate it.

It's your contest and your rules but it seems kind of odd to ban the very substance that inspired the contest from the contest.
