Spoilers References in "Discovery"?

Or then modified, in-universe. But there's the additional factor that every MU episode seems to be showing a different MU, sometimes slightly different, sometimes grossly so. We can't really tell whether the Defiant here comes from the ENT incident, or even whether she originally came from the TOS one...

In any case, it's a reference until proven otherwise.

Perhaps an implicit reference to
a female ruler who put an end to the right of competing females to demonstrate their belly buttons in public
?

Of course, it's pretty likely that there will be discussion of the past in the next episode. DS9 when visiting this milieu made mention of the TOS connection, even if it didn't really have to. DSC has to mention its ENT connection, because this connection is what the current mission of our DSC heroes is all about!

I'm pretty impressed that, despite being the "franchise killer", ENT had a ton of references in last year's Star Trek Beyond and is now getting a follow-up to "In a Mirror, Darkly"
Find the USS Defiant and hopefully a way back to the prime universe.
Up next, the conclusion to Babylon 5: Crusade!

As an ENT fan I love it. It makes good business sense too. Last week's episode of "After Trek" even suggested watching those 2 ENT episodes on CBS All Access to understand what is happening with the Defiant. If they ignored that series they could not do that. Truth is most people have no informed opinions on ENT. It had low ratings on a dying network. Few people saw it when it first aired, so its fresh to them now.

Even though they have not directly mentioned the Augment Virus, it's clear that Starfleet's last significant encounter with the Klingon's was dated to those ENT episodes as well.

I am still hoping they find a way to include at least one ENT actor to reprise their role.

This is what the Andorians look like in Discovery...

looks a bit different but I think looks good

I wonder if the antennae still move?

The Andorian guns are also excellent - the boxiness of the ENT designs is retained, but these are clearly all-new props.

I watched the Andorian's antennae closely in every scene he appeared in. There were two moments when those were clearly moving. But I think they more subtlety moved in other moments as well. When he was walking or moving his head there was more happening that the equivalent of just a persons ears turning with their whole head.

I'm glad to see Discovery had ties to the Enterprise Mirror Universe shows it's great to see the Andorian in that picture. .:techman:

And the Tellarites. Although these have tusks, beards, and generally much uglier faces than in, say, "Bounty". Perhaps these are the females of the species or something?

(Tellarites always were rather diverse, even between their two TOS appearances. Perhaps diversity is typical for their species?)

What's the finger count?

Five on one of 'em. The other kept his (her?) hands (hooves?) hidden.

That would be a dream come true for me! They could have him or her as an old character, or recreate a flashback. How cool would it be if they talk about the Romulan War and have a flashback to Season 5 that never was?

I'm hoping in the next episode we get some kind of reference to Empress Sato. Maybe walk by a portrait. You know there has to be one on that ship somewhere.

TrekCore's transcript of the first paragraph

"ON SD 0141.7, ISS ENTERPRISE, ON THE ORDERS OF COMMANDER JONATHAN ARCHER, CROSSED INTO THOLIAN SPACE, IN VIOLATION OF ORDERS FROM STARFLEET COMMAND.

UPON ENTERING [XXXXX] ENTERPRISE REACHED [XXXXX] WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THE WARSHIP DEFIANT HIDDEN IN [XXXXX] THOLIAN BASE."

The second Paragraph just talks about the Defiant's systems, how the design is similar to other imperial ships and its armament, Multiple phased beam arrays, 1 rear torpedo. It mentions fore torpedoes, it either says 2 or 6, if they used memory-alpha as a source (face it, this was probably not meant to be read), probably 6.

...Okay, seems the MU is done with, and perhaps done for, as of now. No references to Empress Sato, except perhaps for the current Emperor having a Japanese lineage. Nothing concrete coming out of "In a Mirror, Darkly", as the spatial rift there remains unusable for reasons already well laid out in TOS "Tholian Web". We don't get to see anything from the 2150s, no relics, no people. All the references we do get are to TOS "Mirror, Mirror". Chapter closed.

Except we now have a witness, a hostage, a guest, a whatever. Perhaps that witness will eventually be musing about the good old times?
