Re-Watching Space: 1999

Wonder what credit difference between guest star and guest artist.

Just watching Death's Other Domain and Brian Blessed is listed as guest star and John Shrapnel is "guest artist".

Was Shrapnel the bigger name of the two at the time?

The reverse, I'd have thought; Blessed had starred in Z Cars and done episodes of The Avengers, etc, while Shrapnel was just starting out (he'd been in three episodes of Elizabeth R, but otherwise this was one of his first key screen roles, after the inevitable supporting parts).

I saw Moonbase 3 on cable once -- probably The Sci-Fi Channel while it was still called that. It wasn't the best thing ever, but I liked it because it tried to be grounded and realistic and to go more for drama than action and spectacle, unlike most SFTV. It was the diametric opposite of Doctor Who's fantasy.
It was that screening that tipped the BBC off that the American producers still had copies. Until then it was Missing Believed Wiped.

You could be right there. Just checked Voyager's Return and Jeremy Kemp (aka Robert Picard) was guest star and the actor who play the young scientist was "guest artist".

^That makes sense. An artist is just any old performer, but a star is someone important, a headliner. If you think about it, it's kind of weird that we've come to use "guest star" to refer to any guest performer.

just watched the first episode of Moonbase 3. Just wonder how it could have gone with the budget of Space:1999 instead of the BBC.

And I think at least one seats from the shuttle turned up in Blake's 7 :)

I just ordered the DVD set of this. Curious to see what Letts and Dicks left Doctor Who to do. Based on reviews, I'm setting my expectations low!

I watched tonight the episode with Italian actor Giancarlo Prete, who Sylvia Anderson says Landau was threatened by.

"The Troubled Spirit" is completely stupid and makes no sense—there's a plant seance!

However, Landau squares his shoulders more and takes a heroic stance whenever he's in a scene with Prete, who is obviously more muscular and younger than Landau. (TBH, those moon outfits don't do Landau any favors.)

A very '70s idea, both the speculation about plants having feelings/sentience and the fashion for mysticism and seances.
Well, recent discoveries about plant root messaging make it less unlikely. But Bergman's comment about knowing plants have nervous systems and minds is still a big "WHAT???"

Still surprised, thought it went for silly prices now!
I saw one listed on Amazon US for $700 or so! Reasonably priced on Amazon UK. Although, only a few were left. Got mine for $50-ish including international shipping.

It's worth seeing, but not sure I'd pay 50.

BTW, Letts and Dicks made it between seasons (to be precise, between Time Warrior and Dinosaurs), not after Who.

Well, seeing what else they've worked on will be worth it.

Ah, I must've misremembered. I could've sworn that I heard interviews with them talking about them working on it after DW. But, I guess not! Did you mean between Green Death and Time Warrior by chance--in order to be between season.
