Funny, I never noticed that she smokes in that movie.

random thought #364 that's been circling in my brain for awhile now:

I am starting to firmly believe that roughly 75% (okay, maybe that's too optimistic, let's say 50%) of the global strife, anxiety, and conflict could be resolved if people didn't focus and hone in on every last issue with unrelenting scrutiny.
Now, some things require close examination and analysis, so I'm not talking about the focus on ways in which to improve sustainability, and the move to greener energy sources, dealing with climate change, etc. but other issues that are "smaller" in scope. The ultra-focus and attention that these issues get is causing an imbalance in society since the bigger picture is being clouded and obscured.
Bickering over a football team, for example, is meaningless imho. Who gives a crap when there are people dying due to unsanitary living conditions and diseases that could otherwise be prevented or genocide etc.

I call this "soft focus". Save your collective energies for the big stuff, people. The little stuff will all fall into line when humanity's (and the planet's) basic needs are being met.

In France, we have something called "Le contrôle technique du vehicule", IE technical control of the vehicle. It's something we have to do every other year or we could be arrested and have to pay a huge fine. That control gets more arduous and costly every time, not to mention the repairs that you have to do if it doesn't pan out. I just passed it today. AOK, in spite of the additional clauses of the test! It's always a relief when you're done with it!

We call that an MOT test, ministry of transport test. They get more expensive every year, until it reaches a point where repairs are no longer cost effective.

My friend was telling me over lunch all about a series of vampire romance books she's reading. She was going on and on about how sexy it is and I just thought, but a vampire is dead, right? Ok, living dead, but its body is still a cold dead thing, so how can sex with a vampire be...well, enjoyable? Could a living human not be repulsed by touching a vampire...and now she's mad at me. I ruined her suspension of reality, not to mention lunch. I was and am, a big Buffy fan, but I always wondered about that. I guess I think too much about inconsequential things.
Which is why I belong on this board.

Just like vampires don't need to breathe but still breathe hard when they've been running hard and can smoke.

I guess they do have blood in their bodies, and even though their heart isn't beating, it must be at least moving or circulating somewhat especially after they've just had a drink. So they could possibly...except, their bodies would be cold. I suppose, just like they appear passably human when they want to, the texture and heat could be part of the illusion.

Another weird thing about the vampire romance genre is that a vampire of a couple of hundred years still prays on innocent teenagers. How is that not considered paedophilia or at least frowned upon? And what could a couple of hundred year old vampire possibly get out of dating such a young girl? Also, the power distribution between them is very skewed towards the vampire. The teenage girl is both powerless and inexperienced. I don’t understand the appeal!

I’m hankering for a simpler life.

It may be my anxiety, and it’s certainly a romanticised ideal, but I want to retreat to a remote small holding in the Yorkshire dales, during the harsh winter of 1879. With a well stocked larder and coal house, I’d have little to do except stoke the fire, read the books I’ve always wanted to read, and watch the snow drifts creep across the moor.

I volunteer at the local lgbtq center once a month. Yesterday we showed the movie Love Simon. It’s embarrassingly awkward at times and I felt the need to step out of the room once and again. Despite the awkward teenage drama it’s quite a good movie. And I think we managed to find a new volunteer to help out in the future.

I'm sorry my personal crisis has been played out so publicly.

I was finally able to talk to a couple of people that I needed to talk to, and things are starting to look up for me.

I'll admit I'm much more pleasant to converse with when I'm in a good mood.

I just had to drop off some baggage. Sorry some of it had been leaking out here.

No need to apologise! Sometimes we all need to vent and this is a safe place to do it. I’m glad things are looking up. The feeling when things start to turn around is the greatest. :)
