Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

random thought #364 that's been circling in my brain for awhile now:

I am starting to firmly believe that roughly 75% (okay, maybe that's too optimistic, let's say 50%) of the global strife, anxiety, and conflict could be resolved if people didn't focus and hone in on every last issue with unrelenting scrutiny.
Now, some things require close examination and analysis, so I'm not talking about the focus on ways in which to improve sustainability, and the move to greener energy sources, dealing with climate change, etc. but other issues that are "smaller" in scope. The ultra-focus and attention that these issues get is causing an imbalance in society since the bigger picture is being clouded and obscured.Bickering over a football team, for example, is meaningless imho. Who gives a crap when there are people dying due to unsanitary living conditions and diseases that could otherwise be prevented or genocide etc.

I call this "soft focus". Save your collective energies for the big stuff, people. The little stuff will all fall into line when humanity's (and the planet's) basic needs are being met.

This is what I think as well. But the internet and social media keeps feeding people drama after drama to a point where it's got to overwhelm people. Sometimes I feel the media, especially this new alternative media that was suppose to be the answer to the corporate takeover of the mainstream stuff is basically gaslighting the entire world just to make money off it.
Things that were easy to overlook, not because you didn't notice just that it never felt like a big deal. all of sudden became equal to the stuff Trump and Corporations and criminals are doing. Somehow "Baby it's Cold Out There" is worth the same amount of rage as Trump being a puppet to Russia. But then they also realize you can make money off the outrage of the outrage and bring in even more money. It sucks in liberals,right-wingers and moderates and even people who try to stay above it all. Pretty nifty scam they have conceived. It's a cycle that keeps fueling itself because every outrage creates another outrage and they move in and profit off it.

I have faith, that one day, humanity will come together, collectively, and say, ‘so what’.

The terminal rage junkies are the minority, we just haven’t matured yet as an instant information society and learned how to marginalise them. It will happen.

I'm sorry my personal crisis has been played out so publicly.

I was finally able to talk to a couple of people that I needed to talk to, and things are starting to look up for me.

I'll admit I'm much more pleasant to converse with when I'm in a good mood.

I just had to drop off some baggage. Sorry some of it had been leaking out here.

Really happy that things are starting to improve for you, Scribble!

But of course, you (and everyone) are more than welcome to vent here whenever you need to. :)

Thank you.

I honestly post my issues for personal gratification and as a form of therapy and not public approval, but I did notice that the deeper I went down my own rabbit hole the less public empathy I was getting. In that way, I was able to see that I really needed to face my issues and speak to the people I needed to speak with.

I'm not even so sure how much rage is in the outrage. I was watching this video where this guy was asking students about the "Baby Its Cold Outside" issue and you could tell by both people who didn't see a problem with it or those who had a "I guess I can see a issue with it" was a lack if caring either way. Nobody was passionate about the issue.

Yet when you read about this stuff, I think people still feel the need to chime in and give their 2 cents on it. One of biggest flaws with the outrage culture is i'm not even sure their is much outrage in it over the minor stuff. You give your opinion. Maybe rant a little because you see someone being a dick about it with the opposite view and then you move on with your life and thus the next issue that is propped up for us to care about.

I gave my mom her holiday gift the other night and she said she loved it. She told me that she hadn't told me that she'd signed up for another drawing class (this one is online) and that she'll be proud to use her new drawing pencils and paper for her class.

She really does seem to enjoy exposing her creativity and I want to encourage that as much as I possibly can.

The problem I see is that I think we are all terminal rage junkies. I look at myself and notice I find myself doing the exact same thing that I know is the problem. I use to watch Fox News a little bit back in the day. I told myself I was doing it to see what dumb thing the other side is saying or to keep up with the opposition since I am a liberal. At some point though it made me wonder. Am I doing this because of that or am I doing it because I know what they will say will piss me off and make me angry and maybe I kind of like that because it allows me to feel superior in some fashion.
Sometimes I also do it with Youtube videos. I know going in what kind of emotional reaction it will get out of me yet I will sometimes click on it, almost like getting outraged is a addiction. I don't think we can underestimate how good it feels to be angry. Maybe it's because it validates our own views as the "correct" ones or gives a feeling of control over the instability of society.

With so many Gritty avatars here it reminds me of something my friends with family in Philly said.

When Gritty first game out they hated him just as much as the rest of the country.

But then the rest of the country made fun of him so much, they started loving Gritty out of spite.

^ I have never heard of Gritty before but googled it now. I thought it was a Cookie Monster kinda thing people had as avatars but I was obviously wrong.

One could also argue that all the relentless focus on global issues is preventing people from becoming invested in their community. And paradoxically greater investment in community might do more for global issues on the whole than always focusing on global issues.

A thought I saw one or two other Gritty avatars, maybe I'm misremembering or maybe they were only there briefly.

Super-Random Question. What do you call this decade: The Tens or The Teens?

Well, the second decade of each century has thusly been called the 1910's, the 1810's, the 1710's etc, so this decade is the 2010's.
