Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

It occurs to me now, that, due to personal circumstances, I was prepared to tolerate far more nonsense at work than most would consider reasonable. My circumstances have changed.

I can tolerate more nonsense from people at work if my life in general is not too messy. But when life in general is messy my tolerance for nonsense decreases a lot. At the moment I'm somewhat tolerant as I have some mess in my shared housing situation.

I have noticed that when people insult me, from their car, if we get (collectively) stuck in traffic and I get out of the car, most of them start looking in other directions as if they've never said anything. It never fails to bring a smile to my face...

Sounds like you got a boost in self-esteem.
Unfortunately not. I just no longer have an excuse to put up with it.

That’s the thing exactly. My life has been very messy. I could blame my own lack of planning, but losing your roof because family renege and finding yourself on a mate’s sofa with your wife and kids can really put you on the back foot. That’s all in the past, but you get used to keeping your head down, saying nothing because you’re an inch from losing the three things that make it all worthwhile. Things are messy now, and the quick fix crashed and burned, but the fire shed enough light on the problem to see a way through.

Forgive my bluntness but what was the excuse?
We’ve been trying to move for a long time. To get a mortgage, you need a continuity of income. I have an ok wage, but having been just on the verge of selling and buying, it didn’t make sense to move jobs, and delay a move. We’re not moving now, I can move careers instead.

It sounds like your situation is improving.

All my friends are visiting family and my family is in driving distance. Need to figure out stuff to do for other three days of long weekend.

Sounds like good timing for making the move! :)

There's always been a lot of nonsense at my work but I always had a layer of middle management isolating me from it, so I could just say "Tell me what code to write and I'll write it" and not worry about the drama.

It's always better to communicate than to keep things to yourself and let them eat at you day after day. I once had a vivid discussion with someone and then we were separated for a while and I was surprised to learn that that person thought I was still angry with them and wouldn't want to work with them on a project while the incident was on my part long forgotten and was never of any importance, to begin with. IMO that person made mountains out of tiny molehills and should have called me long ago. Fortunately, I was able to call them and we worked on that project that was a success.

^ Generally I agree with you and communication has solved a lot of my problems too. Except for when you encounter bullies that can’t always be reasoned with. I tend to confront their behaviours and end up going nowhere and frustrated as hell!

I've learned that the worst thing to have in your attic is not a hornet's nest as you might think, it's a bee swarm. Hornets are less aggressive than bees and unlike the latter, they don't leave their stinger in your skin which makes a big difference.

Just found this on a 9-1-1 twitter feed:

Someone just called 911 because they broke the key to their handcuffs and need a friendly police officer to come uncuff her.

Why do I envision six police cruisers responding to that call??

One of my roomies and her kid, who comes to live with her on weekends, are now leaving the house to go to the kid’s ballet lesson and a fun day out. I’m looking forward to a day of peace and quiet. They do this every Sunday so sundays are always peaceful. :D
