It occurs to me now, that, due to personal circumstances, I was prepared to tolerate far more nonsense at work than most would consider reasonable. My circumstances have changed.
Unfortunately not. I just no longer have an excuse to put up with it.Sounds like you got a boost in self-esteem.
That’s the thing exactly. My life has been very messy. I could blame my own lack of planning, but losing your roof because family renege and finding yourself on a mate’s sofa with your wife and kids can really put you on the back foot. That’s all in the past, but you get used to keeping your head down, saying nothing because you’re an inch from losing the three things that make it all worthwhile. Things are messy now, and the quick fix crashed and burned, but the fire shed enough light on the problem to see a way through.I can tolerate more nonsense from people at work if my life in general is not too messy. But when life in general is messy my tolerance for nonsense decreases a lot. At the moment I'm somewhat tolerant as I have some mess in my shared housing situation.
Unfortunately not. I just no longer have an excuse to put up with it.

We’ve been trying to move for a long time. To get a mortgage, you need a continuity of income. I have an ok wage, but having been just on the verge of selling and buying, it didn’t make sense to move jobs, and delay a move. We’re not moving now, I can move careers instead.Forgive my bluntness but what was the excuse?

Sounds like good timing for making the move! We’ve been trying to move for a long time. To get a mortgage, you need a continuity of income.
