Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

That's a hellish job. Be careful and wear a dust mask. Mold spurs in the lung can get very nasty.
Do you use chlorine solution to remove the mold or one of those hot air blower thingies?

How did they get to the hellish alternative 1985 from the proper 2015, and how did Biff return the delorian to the proper 2015 after changing the timeline in 1955? It makes no sense.

It actually does. The timeline needs a little to readjust to the changes. In the shot when Biff gets out of the DeLorean and hides, then Marty and Doc come carrying Jennifer, you can see the town in the background changing subtly. It's also why Biff doesn't feel so good. Once the DeLorean is in the air, we see Biff vanishing, showing that the timeline has further adjusted to the changes. The DeLorean is in the air and makes the jump to 1985, which is, by this time, firmly adjusted to the new timeline.

That doesn't explain how the old Biff was able to return the Delorean to HIS timeline where nothing had changed and Doc and Marty were waiting. If Biff's future had been affected the same way as Marty's and Doc's were in similar circumstances he Biff would have returned to a different future where he was a respected millionaire instead of the doormat of his own grandson. When Marty destroyed the Almanach, the picture of Doc in the newspaper changed immediately along with the picture of Marty's father. Biff wouldn't have had enough time to get back to his own time under similar constraints.

My friends are using some kind of solution. Thankfully they don't own the house and have another place they can actually move into (my friend's brother in law's ). They plan on cleaning everything they own that has mold (mostly wood furniture from one part of the house ) and moving ASAP. Their current landlord has a big job on his hands since lack of maintenance is partly what caused this.
I actually didn't have to clean much but I'll prob have to help them move later in the week.

When Old Biff gave the Almanach to Young Biff, it still was on Young Biff to use or ignore the Almanach. It was still a matter of chance. Therefore, the changes took longer to manifest. But when Marty burned the Almanach, those chances were gone, it was a matter of certainty, therefore these changes manifested immediately.

Perhaps the mere act of old Biff stealing the time machine was enough to change history.

It's important to note that we only ever see "Hilldale" after Biff makes off with the sports almanac and gives it to his younger self in 1955. So perhaps the reason Hilldale is such a run-down trash heap in 2015 is due to the changes already rippling forward into the future...

Meaning, old Biff was able to return to the same timeline he left, because it was already an alternate timeline to begin with. Stealing the deLorean was enough.

When Old Biff gave the Almanach to Young Biff, it still was on Young Biff to use or ignore the Almanach.

IMHO, it was obvious that young Biff would exploit the almanac for all it's worth, so that's why I interpret the timeline to change as soon as old Biff stole the deLorean. No matter how crazy he thought his older self was, there's no way young Biff would let the Almanac go without taking advantage of it. He's just too greedy to ignore a treasure like that.

My commiserations both to you and them. Shlepping crates and furniture is no fun, particularly at this time of year when the weather is often unclement.
We Bavarians have a saying: "Three moves equal one house fire." I keep my fingers crossed that nothing breaks or gets lost this time.

When Marty returned to 1985 the first time, the mall was already Lone Pine, the other tree didn’t fade out as he ran past. He went straight to the altered future, as Biff ought to have done. BTTF time travel logic is most convoluted.

Marty spent a week in 1955 after running down that pine, though.

Did you notice that when Marty returns for the last time the valley was named "Clint Eastwood" after the name he gave to people back then? That means that it was named after him since for the people he was the one who fell in it instead of the teacher and that change took place IMMEDIATELY.

I actually didn't, but it doesn't take mich effort to explain.

As Marty himself notes about the valley not being named Clayton, it was a minor change. Just a name, not much else. Nothing compared to the changes Biff's interference causes in the town and probably the entire country. Plus, since the valley wasn't to be named Clayton anymore, one would imagine the timeline already being in flux.

We have no idea when the sign changed to Eastwood Ravine, because we never saw the sign at all until Marty made his final return to 1985.

Huh. Now I feel the need to rewatch the Back to the Future trilogy... I've committed the first to memory, but not the other two.

Thanks rhub. Hopefully they can most of what they are saving packed by Wednesday since that's the day I am supposed to help. I was sort of grateful that I was unable to help much yesterday (can't go through other peoples' personal effects for them; only they can decide what to chuck and what to save) since it was the worst part of the job they were dealing with.
At least we ordered a pizza and watched the football game though. ;)

One thing that I like about that trilogy is that it's filled with myriads of little details that you can't possibly notice before many viewings. Plus we were supposed to have flying cars by now, and hoverboards (real ones not the fakes we got), auto-altering clothes, power-laced shoes, auto-drying clothes, serving robots, glasses that do... something, computer operated houses, vacuum cleaners becoming obsolete! Robot reporters, no lawyers, Jaws 19, street animated holograms...

Yes, too true on the details versus number of views. I've only seen 2 and 3 once apiece... I need to get on that! January is sci fi month, so if not now then... then.
(and, yeah, I often lament hunanity's lack of progression... if only we had hover cars, self-washing clothes, etc. Hollywood always overshoots reality)

If Marty stopped his parents from getting together, how did he go back in time and stop his parents from getting together?

And if the things he did in the past don’t get erased why was he vanishing?

I think the disappearing Marty was just for the drama.

Yeah, but if you can say that we shouldn’t be questioning any of this! ;)

Some people, when they are drunk, get violent and mean. Others get talkative and show off or take silly risks.

I go to Omaze and start donating every raffle that looks like I would enjoy the prize.
