Oh, definitely. It's why I'm always amused by the huge demand for it as though this massive customer base is just weeping over the lack of remastered BluRays.
I just don't find it to be so, even if it looks a little bit better.
Blu-Ray is just something that never took off. So even in 2012, putting out TNG Blu-Rays was dicey. So I wouldn't argue for re-mastered DS9 and VOY for a Blu-Ray release.Of course, what he overlooks is that the reason CBS hasn't been willing to pay for a remaster of DS9 and VOY is that the TNG Remaster lost money, because there just weren't enough fans willing to pay for Remaster BluRays. It's not lack of money -- it's insufficient customer demand.
Also, Lebowitz posted a "Which Alex Kurtzman is most punchable?" meme, which makes me not particularly trust his judgment or professionalism.

But. I would like to see it done for streaming purposes. I'm sorry to say this but DS9 and VOY in SD suffer on a big-screen TV compared to every other Star Trek series. And I'm of the generation who grew up when these shows were made. So if I think it doesn't look that great today, then who knows what younger and future generations will think. Thanks to Picard there might be people who want to check out DS9 and VOY either again or for the first time.
It's not exactly on the top of my list of "things I just can't wait to see!" More like "it would be nice".

He did. If you were interested, you can scroll through his old Facebook to read about applying for a job working on DSC (and why he was rejected) and looking at some of his designs for a future Enterprise.Didn't Gabe Koerner make the D for TATV?

TMP also targets a built in audience who, at least at the time, had the disposal income.TMP is a niche audience! so will be interesting to see if that happens

As a Dr Who fan, I find it most amusing that Auntie Beeb can restore the old Dr Who's, but something of the quality of Star Trek DS9 and VOY are left looking very poor indeed.

I don't know-go ask them. And if it's cheaper than a whole new show, and stops some people from dropping for a few months until a new show is ready - why not?
If you're making something for CBS All Access, you're not making something for purchase on Blu-Ray. You're adding exclusive content to All Access. And if it's cheaper than a whole new show, and stops some people from dropping for a few months until a new show is ready - why not?
A big plus of doing remasters is - for some reason that I don't quite understand - you can watch any older Trek on either Netflix or Amazon Prime.

He is certainly opinionated![]()
The idea that it is peanuts keeps blowing my mind. It's like people constantly undervalue the amount of labor and time that is necessary to do this thing they keep heaping abuse at CBS for not doing. This idea that it's "peanuts" keeps getting thrown around -- sorry, but it's not peanuts. It may not be as expensive as producing a new show, but it's still a significant investment of millions of dollars. And nobody has yet demonstrated that there is sufficient customer demand for it to be worth the cost to CBS in a capitalist marketplace.
I am continually blown away by the level of hostility and violence that is tolerated when directed at Trek producers. That's not being "opinionated." That's being abusive. The fact that it comes from an industry professional instead of a random television viewer means that it is borderline harassment and comes damn near being a threat of violence. It is completely inappropriate for an industry professional treat another industry professional that way, especially in public.
If I were the head of a visual effects company, I would never hire an artist who posted memes like that (lest someone refuse to contract with my company for employing him), and if I were a Hollywood studio, I would never contract with any visual effects company owned by someone who posts something like that.
I'm more inclined to say circular reasoning but that's just me.Lebowitz in one of his comments cited himself as the industry professional who was authorised to vouch for the fact that the DS9/VOY upgrades were financially viable.
On his word.
Yeah I should have stated it was an appeal to self-authority which is really what's happening here. Not sure if that's a true logical fallacy though...I'm more inclined to say circular reasoning but that's just me.
