Production Quality Of Picard

7 of 9 never murdered a unarmed person in cold blood before while with voyager. She was only out of the cube for a short time back then.

She electrocuted a Hirogen.

she’s not the 7 of 9 from voyager. She’s been changed into a mercenary with Han Solo style clothes. She had murdered with her group before. In voyager she became a perfectionist and capable crew member who became a problem solver much like data. All of that is now gone.

Not that much. Watch some voyage episodes with 7 of 9 she used the best parts of her borg upbringing with the humanity she gained to be a stellar scientist and a person that didn’t even get riled by Q.

It was a role that Janeway forced upon her.

She's on her own now and making her own decisions. She was a "scientist" who had to exist in a society that wanted nothing to do with her because of who (and WHAT) she was and what she did.

Clearly, she did not find "science" all that satisfying.

I think there is a little bit more than that and not just unsatisfying. Being in a controlled environment, even on Voyager, would have been more manageable than the freedoms allowed within the Federation.

So I just finished the series. I have to say I was very disappointed in the production Quality.

The clothing looked like they just went to JC Penney or Walmart and bought t-Shirts,Sweaters and black jackets. If I was transported 370 years in the future wearing my 21st century clothes I would fit right in. The clothes in 24th century trek now include zippers if the 29th century variety as well as button shirts with colors. The shoes look like any work boot you can pull off the shelf at walmart.

The effects were were terrible. When Riker came to the rescue with his armada I thought he was doing the Picard Maneuver because all the ships looked the same. I was sorely mistaken. So a couple hundred Starfleet ships all look exactly the same and ugly to boot. The romulan ships looked hastily put together in the computer and looked very amateurish. Like the Starfleet ships they were multiplied and rendered badly.

The sets looked very 21st century with computer chairs they obviously bought at Staples or office Max. The sets themselves looked bare and not very detailed. One set actually had miniature Christmas tree lights hanging haphazardly on the walls and ceilings. So many set decorators use the miniature light technique to try and dress a set better(used on soaps and WB shows a lot) but it always comes off looking cheesy. Rikers Bridge also looked rushed and honestly just boring.

These first observations are my opinion and I'm sure some of you loved it but when I compare the effects and sets that were done on shows like TNG and DS9 the production here seemed to be well below the earlier shows standards. I expected more from a show that just had to produce 10 episodes vs the average 26 of the 80s and 90s shows.

You have terrible taste and I don't want to be your friend.

She changed, as a result of her experiences. She was dissatisfied with how the Federation dropped the ball and wanted to do what the Federation would not - confront the injustices that were taking place on the Federation's, doorstep. She was effectively fighting that on her own, or possibly with a small band of rangers, in one of the roughest parts of the quadrant. One of her friends was brutally tortured. What would you expect her to be in the wake of those experiences, would you have her be exactly as she was in VOY?

It's almost like the "Double Dumb Ass on you" line was played for comedy...
There's always someone who doesn't get the joke.

I find it funny and a little sad that a gag about people of the time using salty language got twisted into "We don't swear in the future!". Especially since there was swearing at the beginning of the same film and the three films that came before it.

First, I don't know if you can actually say that. I mean, how much do any of us know about fashion trends in random decades in the 17th century? .
Ooh, I can answer this one. Can't cite the exact reference, mind, but I once read a collection of letters and diaries by a 17th century gentleman who commented on how his friends were always teasing him about his outdated clothing, but he never saw why he should bother updating his wardrobe because, "every 20 years the fashion comes back around to me." Basically, fashion tends to be cyclical, and that was as true in the 17th century as it is in the 21st.

I'm sorry, but you can't tell me that the clothing that we see on TNG and DS9 isn't absolutely ridiculous. The stuff that Wesley and Jake Sisko wear would get you laughed out of a classroom. The idea that clothes in the future would look like that were fine for it's time, but it's a little ridiculous now. Nobody wants to see Picard running around in a pink and purple leotard with shoulder pads.

The effects are way better than anything we saw in 90's. Just because they don't match up with the TNG aesthetics doesn't mean that they're not good. And it's OK for Starfleet to make a whole fleet with the same design of ship. I'm sure it's cheaper. I don't think most people watch Star Trek to check out 30 seconds shots of cool ships.

I think Picard is the best looking of all the Trek shows. Looks even better than the movies. In January, I watched an episode of Voyager for the first time in over a decade or more and was surprised by how it looked compared to today's productions. Offhand, the only visuals that I don't like in Picard are the lack of creativity with the Starfleet uniforms and the attack on Mars which looked like a video game. The civilian clothes work for me. Will the future look like that? Who knows, but for now, it doesn't bother me. And count me in as one who prefers the 2399 civies to the spandex ones from 30 years ago.

In Berman Trek, civilians dress like bus seats or carpet sample catalogues.

^ Actually, Jake's shirt isn't bad. And people do wear stuff like that today.

If it comes down to a choice between boring and ridiculous I will take ridiculous
I like it too when they do something different and show us that this is the future. I like the TOS/TNG uniforms that people deride as pajama-like, and I even like the skants simply because they were different. But some of the spandex civilian outfits seemed to lack something. They didn't feel authentic. They often screamed "TV budget spandex outfit".

So? Who cares? She's a fictional character at the whim of whoever is given the job to write for her. I don't particularly like how Picard himself is portrayed in the new show, but I'm not going to get all mock-angry about it.

Raffi is a drunk and a drug addict by choice.
"Choice" is hard enough when you haven't developed an addiction. Once you have, choice is a much harder thing, and for a lot of people without strong support networks, nigh impossible. There are people on this board and possibly reading this thread who've been through that hell with drugs and/or alcohol and some still are, so you're not discussing some abstract fictional thing. But blame is easier than nuance I suppose.

Your understanding of and compassion for addiction is as deep as Picard’s. Which is to say, childish and ill informed.

While I would agree that @fireproof78 is showing a lack of comprehension of the complex phenomenon of addiction, I would like to defend the character of Picard for a moment and suggest that Picard's relationship to Raffi was mostly motivated by shame on his part. He tried to organize the largest evacuation in galactic history -- arguably tried to do the single biggest thing in galactic history -- and he failed, and then millions (if not billions) of innocent people died as a result of his failure. He spiraled into a deep depression and abandoned almost everybody and almost all of his long-term relationships. So while I don't think his actions in not talking to Raffi anymore were good, I also don't think he was motivated by negative opinions of people with addictions.
