Production Order Group Viewing 2018

William Shatner, of course he did as it looks like it's combed into his own greying remnants of hair! Leonard Nimoy was lucky to have such good hair but then he had it cut into a basin style and then combed down to hide his forehead! :vulcan:

Shatner's toupee was actually excellent and the best wig of his career. It's weaved in pretty seamlessly. Only the HD prints make the forehead seam obvious in some shots (depending on the lighting). As a kid before I saw him in later shows, I was convinced it was real hair. It still looks great. The only time I felt he was combing his own hair over was in the pilot, before the production invested in a custom piece. And in HD you can see his scalp through the sides. I'm not even sure he's wearing a toupee in that episode, I think it's an elaborate combover. Justman went on record saying he was thinning at this point. Nastier cast members with an axes to grind (I'm looking at you, Doohan) said Shatner only had "odd tufts" Whatever the truth, for the series, Shatner's hair looked great.

ANOTHer reason i just do not want HD blurays. So many things ppl point out that are flaws.

Yup agreed, I almost always default back to the DVDs, they're just sharp enough. Also the Blu Rays seem to have edge enhancement, typical for Paramount, and it makes some scenes look unnatural. I also don't agree with the color grading, but that's another story.

Whenever fans say they want a 4K release of the series, I just their they're nuts. We seen enough wood grain under paint and Spock's ear seams as it is.

Shatner's wig was brilliant and it's only now that we know he was balding. The only scene I can think of at the moment where you can see his wig is combed into his tufts is from This Side of Paradise with McCoy in the room calling the ship! :techman:

And Nimoy also had a fairly large bald spot. On HD you can often see that they often painted over it with black Hairspray.

I can't say I've ever noticed his bald spot unless you're speaking of his hair being almost tied up to give him that Vulcan style and the crown is visible at the top? :vulcan:

Shatner's Toupee: Did Shatner wear a toup right from the start of Star Trek? (shatnerstoupee.blogspot.com)

Nice! So really just a front weave for that episode, probably cheaper or one he had already. But yeah, it's not the same specimen of perfection he wore in the show.

It's funny how much interest there is in it. If he simply copped to wearing one, nobody would give shit, really. Burt Reynolds, Larry Hagman, Martin Landau, and many many more wore hear pieces and nobody cared (on the series Dan August, Burt's hair seemed to change from scene to scene). Possibly no one mentions it because they all had appearances where they showed their natural hair or simply talked about it.

Shatner never mentioned it even when it was obvious. But really, since it was so obvious after the series, I wonder why it's still a topic. Maybe because the 80's toupee was so inappropriate for his age?
