Poor Jeri Ryan

Personal curiosity, but when did "Cougar" become synonymous with "mature women"?
I don't think it does.

From how I've seen the word used, it's an older woman that attracks younger men.

It used to mean, or so I've read, "sexually aggressive older woman." Now it apparently means "sexually attractive older woman." I don't know. I think it's just a silly fad term and I'm hoping it fades quickly. At least it's better than MILF - I mean, euw. Talk about TMI...

He tried to take her to sex clubs. Which is why she divorced his ass. Jack Ryan was one of these Family Values, Uber-Christiany types by day and Charlie Sheenesque coke-fiend, sex-addict by night. So when it all came to light he resigned his US Senate seat. Ironically enough, it was none other then Barack Obama that was the next one to take that seat.

Jack Ryan never had the Senate seat. He was the Republican candidate, Barack Obama was the Democratic candidate. They were in the midst of the campaign when the Chicago Tribune sued to have Jack & Jeri's custody child custody files opened. The Trib won, the heavily redacted files were released, and Jack dropped out of the race to be replaced by carpetbagger Alan Keyes, and Obama won handily.

Obama was leading in the polls by a wide margin before the scandal broke.

Yeah, I think "cougar" is slightly more classy than MILF.
Have you even noticed nobody ever calls a woman a MILF to her face?

"No, Brannon! No! No boobies tonight until you write that women as the crazy bitch she is! Make her tie some guy to a chair and torture him... Yeah that's it, make her a homicidal maniac and then boobies. This'll show her. NO! No Brannon, down Brannon. Bad Brannon! Bad!"

OMG, this made me laugh so hard!! :guffaw::guffaw:

There are some sick people on this thread. Honestly. Since when did discussing TREK shows turned into insults about a woman's body?

Because it's insulting and sexist, you moron! Jeez! We're in the 21st century and people are still acting as if there's something wrong with women being interested in younger men. It's okay for men to be interested in younger women. But apparently, women cannot be interested in younger men.

People are such narrow-minded morons.

Wow.

Do people have to explain colours to you?

The but of that "joke" was Brannon being easily controlled by sexual needs, which from viewing his production and writings is puerile and avaricious, an Achilles heel any woman with half a brain can use to manipulate him into doing almost anything, even his then girlfriend, Jeri Ryan.

You really can't see this being an attack on Brannon's lack of respect to woman?

Wow.

It's not professional to whine about your co-workers to your BF - or, for that matter, to anybody else - wherever it is that you work in any industry at all. Everybody just has to find a way to work together, and apparently on VOY they did. You don't have to be friends with your co-workers in order to do good work with them - and doing good work is in fact more important than being friends. The work is what you're there for - and that, too, is the same in any industry anywhere.
Working 16 hour days, 6 days a week under hot lights and make up?

Noboby but nobody is always professional 24/7. Tension on a job can cause stress, stress can cause people snap and say nasty sarcastic things. Hell, it happens here all the time(even by those in charge) and we're just folks talking online without even being face to face.

In one version of the classic fairy tale I did hear, the Wicked Queen ate what she thought was Snow White's heart when the huntsman supplied a proxy for proof of death, because... Sometimes it's not just enough to destroy a rival who would supplant your position and status, you have to digest and defecate them to teach them the meaning of words like "presumptuous", and for others that could smell princess on her breath, they now knew full well to keep their heads down and shut the fuck up.

 People are also hiporcritical as well when it comes to certain views. I'm quite envious of Jeri Ryan's body-she has the perfect figure! One that I'd personally kill to have one day! And older women go out with younger men every day..I think these women want to be young and don't wish to get older. As for older men going out with younger women, hey it happens as well and I also think older men like having a young, sweet thing on their arms. It makes them feel better about themselves I suppose.

Hate to make this a commentary thread, but Wang does a great impersonation of Picardo.

Score.

Obama was leading in the polls by a wide margin before the scandal broke.

EVEN WITH the Sex Scandal, Ryan had a better chance than Allan Keyes.....

They are actors after all. Actors are the most needy, egotistical, vain, childish, pompous, pretentcious, elitist, stupid, whack jobs alive.

See, this is why I hate actors. It doesn't matter the scale.... You'll only get a few good ones in the bunch...

Anyway, on to the topic: Why should I feel sorry for her? She did the job she was paid to do. She gained a bit of noteriety (albeit not outright stardom) and overall did a good job with a cardboard character. She gave the character a little bit more depth than what was written in the script. Is she exceptionally talented? No, but she was good enough.

Sure, work was hard. The suit was so tight she had blackouts allegedly. Yeah. Godzilla suit actors got lit on fire for less pay.

She was a show stealer, she was put there based on sex appeal alone. One of the things I liked about Janeway was that she looked like a real woman. The type I would see at the movies, or at the grocery store. Ryan was the complete opposite of that. And as the years went on, it became Ryan's show more and more. Of course Mulgrew will hat that. She's the complete opposite, and a show stealer, and it took the focuse off of not only her but just about everyone else.

I also don't feel sorry for her, because for some reason when I see a recurring trend of dating people who have power to simply further her own needs... Politician, Producer, ect.... I some how can't think the most flattering things about this person.

^^Kate Mulgrew is also married to a politician from Ohio.

Jeri is married to a chef that lives in LA, how does that advance her career?

Depends.

is she applying for work on the Food Network?

I wouldn't mind watching her cook.

(Any pun you can imagine not necessarily, but probably implied.)

I love Good Eats, and there used to be this miss mash with Lisa Loeb and one of Frank Zappers kids.

The only song i know that I have heard of Franks is this piss take where he played Stairway to heaven backwards on Guitar.

I prefer "Diners, Drive In's & Dives" or "TOP CHEF" on BRAVO myself.

So, actors are required to risk a stroke for Star Trek?

:guffaw:

Ryan was an investment banker when they married. He didn't go into politics until 10 years after they divorced.

Her current husband is a chef and co-owner (with her) of a small restaurant in LA. I'm not sure what power you think he wields, but I'm sure he'd love some of it! :guffaw:

Seven's clothing was uncomfortable, yes, but she had a good idea what would be expected of her when she signed the contract. It shouldn't be "poor Jeri" for simply living up to her part of the bargain. Plus, there were plenty of actors who had it worse. Her prosthetics were fairly tame when compared to what the Klingon actors had to go through, or what Ethan Phillips did, as Neelix. I heard a story at the Tulsa con where Tim Hagan (KM's hubby) was sitting with Phillips while he went through the two or three hour makeup ordeal. When Tim sympathized with him about it, Ethan replied, "I'd let them smear sh*t on my face for what they're paying me." I never heard of Jeri complaining about her costume or makeup.

Of the rivalries on the cast, I think Jeri's arrival was about the worst case scenario for an ensemble cast. Her character definitely changed the focus of the show, and many characters were overlooked in favor of her development (and the EMH's, to be fair). She also replaced a young actress that they others felt close to; it must have been tough. They managed to do some decent work, even so, and in the passage of years, I think most of that has faded away. I read a report about the NJ Creation Con where Kate admitted she might have gone overboard and apologized for it. When you listen to them talk about their time together at cons, it sounds like this cast had the most fun of any when it came to working together, and, like other casts, they have remained fairly close. That's something for a bunch of actors!

The issue with Jeri's costume was with the Borg get-up--which was certainly just as bad as anything the Klingon actors or Neelix had to go through.

And it was a design defect that caused her problems. The Borg costumes are developed by doing a full body cast of the actor to produce the rubber costume. When they produced the rubber costume, they forgot to take into account the bald cap which fits under the neck.

This made the neck too tight and cut off the blood flow to her brain through the carotid artery. Guess what happens when you cut the blood flow through the carotid? You have a stroke.

Surely you're not going to argue that a preventable stroke for a 29 year-old is "part of the bargain"?

When the costumers realized what the problem was, they adjusted the costume. This is part of their job--to make prosthetics as safe and comfortable as possible for the actors wearing them.

ETA: I wonder if AuntKate would include Kate complaining about the endless changes to her hair or wearing the "Star Trek bra" as being as "unprofessional" as Jeri was? After all, it's the actor's job to wear what's expected of her...

How can I "factually prove" you wrong when you are,
For the 3rd time, Transcripts.

Sorry for bringing up this so late, however I did not notice this thread earlier than today and I just have to post this since there actually does exist a transcript of that Slanted Fedora Con at

http://www.totallykate.com/philly01/pilly01b.html

Q: I was wondering on the screen you seemed like Kathryn Janeway and Seven of Nine seemed to have this growing and growing bond. And I was wondering if you and Jeri Ryan had a growing friendship as well off screen?

KATE MULGREW: Did you all hear him? He felt that on the screen Captain Janeway and Seven of Nine had a growing and growing bond as he put it. And he wants to know if in life Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan had a growing growing bond. Well the operative word here is bond. No, we didn't have a bond, honey. I can not tell a lie. We just didn't. Nice girl. We didn't bond. (audience laughter) You know… after all this time, as if everybody doesn't know that we didn't bond, what's the point of saying that we did? Don't you think? Does everybody have to bond? You could see very well who I bonded with, couldn't you? Who did I bond with?

Thank you, for being the only one to take the time to learn the truth.

People don't wish to believe it but she said it from her own mouth.

You're welcome. :)

Actually I'm taken aback when I notice that even fans of KM do not realize what the awful truth is.
As long as I used to be a die-hard KM fan, I always wanted to know the truth anyway. However, can you imagine my nasty surprise when I've found out the truth of the truth after many years of worship?? Boy, that was more than horrible but I had no chance than dealing with it and bearing the consequences - which were (for me) not being a Kate Mulgrew fan any longer. I still appreciate her as an actress but not as a person any more (thanks to herself). And I'm not talking about her behavior towards Jeri Ryan which may have changed my mind...this was absolutely disgusting without any doubt even though KM can be much more beastly, believe me.
