Poor Jeri Ryan

What interests me about Seven is how, as others have said, she was created as a sex charm yet Jeri desexualized her and turned her into a smart, straight-forward, completely uncoy character. The character the writers envisioned and the character they got were at complete parallels, all thanks to one person...the one person most bashed for why and how she was originally created.

Jeri Ryan was marvellous in Voyager. She enhanced nearly every scene she was in, and not because of her appearance, though she's certainly a pretty lady, but because of her performances and the personality she brought to the character. Seven's one of my favourite Star Trek characters, even though Voyager isn't one of my favourite shows. The scene in Latent Image where she persuades Janeway to treat the Doctor as a member of the crew rather than a mere computer program is probably my favourite scene in Voyager.

^^I agree. Jeri Ryan is a great actress. Her talent completely over shadows the catsuit IMO. The woman could be in a burlap sack and still would have made Seven a hit. As for the catsuit. What is the big deal. I mean Troy wore one in TNG, all the women wore hiked up mini shirts in the original series. And since Troy and all the women on the original series were far more sexual than Seven why would her catsuit be a problem?

As for the whole Mulgrew Ryan thing. I love both actresses but Mulgrew has more than just a rep for being a diva. Everyone by now has to know that Mulgrew was a total bitch to Ryan. I mean, not only has Mulgrew commented on it herself but so have her coworkers . Specifically: Picardo, Beltran, and most definitly Wang. Some one should post a transcript of that radio interview Wang did a few years back where he slams Mulgrew for "wrongly" taking out her feelings on Ryan instead of the producers. He talks about what a bad experience Ryan had on Voyager due to Mulgrews hateful comments. He calls them jabs. Its really an interesting read.

You know its kind of funny. I mean, I've never read where anyone Ryan has worked with on Voyager (not counting Mulgrew) or BP, Shark, Leverage, Law and order, etc have ever complained about her. In fact a lot of people complement her for her talent and more than once have said what a joy she is to have on the set. It makes me wonder what Mulgrews "real" problem was with her. And why is it that Ryan has only ever said nice things about Mulgrew and only when she is asked about her. Where Mulgrew seems to talk negatively about Ryan, the catsuit, Seven, etc even when she isn't asked. Granted most of her recent comments have been how it had nothing to do with Ryan that Jeri is beautiful and a good girl. But her early comments in interviews and cons were pretty crappy. Either way she still talks about Ryan. Seems like Mulgrew can't let go of something.

As I said I really do like both women. But I really have a great deal of respect for Ryan. I mean look at all the crap she went through on Voyager. Not just with Mulgrew but with her marriage and her dirt bag husband. Plus her schedule was 10-15 hour days. She was sick a lot especially during the first season (probably due to lack of sleep and stress). And she had/has an autistic child. Still she made seven into a great character and really rose above everything. I think she is a great actress and very dignified person.

And FYI, Mulgrew has played her fair share of tits and ass during the course of her career. Dallas, Throw mama from the train, etc. So her whole problem with TPTB bring in Ryan to sex up the show is kind of hypocritical IMO.

sorry for the long post, just throwing in my 2 cents

Who cares?

I don't understand people who are so obsessed with "celebrity drama." The actors neither know, nor care that you exist, so it's fairly stupid to get your knickers in a twist over the lives of complete strangers.

Jeri Ryan? Pretty lady, talented actress. Overpaid celebrity, and I'm more interested in astronauts, scientists, and people who actually contribute to the evolution of society.

This Mulgrew/Ryan crap is petty gossip.

I didn't know Ryan's son is autistic. Where did you hear that?
Yes, he is.

I remember Jeri appeared in the crowd of a episode of "American Idol" w/ him. I recall several folks online making some off color remarks about how he looked.(Why would anyone poke fun of an innocent defenseless child whether he has autisim or not, I don't know) I believe it was another poster here that set the record straight about her son being autistic and posted a link for factual back up.

I think it's ridiculous that her kid comes up for discussion at all.

I only asked because I'm autistic myself, and I'm interested in anyone else with similar problems.

^ Define "real." Jeri has a lovely figure in real life (at least in the photos I've seen - Teya or somebody who's seen her in person would know more), but on the other hand when she was playing Seven they had her in one of those industrial strength corsets.

Seriously. When I saw this thread's title, at first I assumed it was for her body contortionism act in the space catsuit. You can be she was shown her costume AFTER she signed her contracts!

Although I didn't really like Seven's character or the episodes that focused mostly around her, I think it was more a case of wasted potential than everything. They had the chance to make a really badass character, and instead they made her Data with a catsuit and a chest of magnificent proportions.

A truly "badass" character? That's rather subjective. Many would agree that despite the blatant sex appeal that she WAS badass.

I'm just ad we didn't get to see her more often in a Starfleet uniform.

Jeri Ryan was hotter in that than her catsuit, that's for sure. Just like Troi. :D

Actually I think it might have been 'goofy and a bit cheesy'. This is when she was thinking of taking the part. I suppose she learned more about ST after working in the show for a while.
Yeah, she learnt that she was correct.
