Pine channels the Shat

i love how they actually pay homage to oldtrek at the same time make fun of it. it's great! i think it was a great contribution to the movie the way they did that. homage for the old fans and humor for viewers who don't know oldtrek or didn't care for it.

Make fun of it? When did that happen?? That must of went over my head. Explain please.

oh stuff like Kirk hitting his head on the shuttle bulkhead... McCoy saying he likes the "pointy-eared bastard", Chekov's accent... the movie's chockful of the making-fun-yet-paying tribute variety of gags.

I don't consider Kirk hittin his head on the bulkhead or McCoy's saying this or that.... to be "making fun of"....those are called nods or homages...at least that's what I was calling them -- making fun of something has a much more negative connotation...and if they made "fun" of anything about TOS in this new movie...you best believe I wouldn't be liking it.

making fun of = teasing. at least, to me. I only tease the ones I love.

I am a huge fan... I wouldn't mind if it was done the way it was done here.

Maybe this would be a good place to bring up something which struck me before. In one of the trailers, there's a shot where Kirk has just finished climbing out of the escape-pod hole in the ice on Delta Vega and staggers to his feet. That staggering side-step Pine does (see it at about the 1:21 mark) reminds me of a similar movement by Shatner in an original series episode -- I just can't remember what the episode or context was.

I noticed that, too. And it looked somewhat contrived enough for me to think it was supposed to be reminiscent of the Shat. Still, I think Pine's physique is so very different from Shatner's, that the movement didn't come off as well as it might.

Now, in the next movie he needs to get his shirt ripped open. ;)

Yep, seriously. I kept waiting for the shirt to get ripped. i NEEDED it.

I know alot of people didnt like the "Buckle up!" but i thought he nailed Shatner on that one.

And, did anyone else see Chris Pine's face morph ever so slightly into Shatner's when Spock had him around the neck and down on the console? I could swear i saw Shatner's face. Good acting? Being totally caught up in the movie? Acid flashback?

^ All of the above? I'll have to look out for that, if I get a chance to see it again.

The "Bones... " before the "buckle up" was pure ShatnerKirk, though.
