It really should be somebody from Enterprise. In real time, T'Pol or Phlox would make the most sense. T'Pol could be presented as Sarek's colleague or mentor. Phlox's presence would be harder to explain, but workable. Also, even though Archer is dead, we could see a recording of his inauguration speech or a flashback to when Sarek met him years ago or whatever. It will be a shame if they don't do something like that.
I know it's the Kelvin universe but Scotty's line about an Admiral Archer and a beagle couldn't be the same ones of either. So maybe it's a son or daughter who kept on the tradition.
That might be fun for Discovery to do something similar. Admiral Archer being his daughter with another beagle named something historic too.
General audience doesn't need to worry, we get a nice nod, no expensive casting of an existing character that might be contensious to some fans, Enterprise haters get to ignore it.

Interesting. Either would be nice to see, but neither could play their familiar characters. It would really be best to have someone from Enterprise.
25 years before ST09 was when the timelines diverged, no? So really the same Archer, since he was born and lived most of his life before the split.
Definitely not the same dog, unless Phlox did something else to Porthos I we didn't see, like Borg nanoprobes from Regeneration.
Archer is probably like those old ladies who have several consecutive dogs with the same name (or even better, like Under The Rainbow and all the dogs named Strudel that kept dying, but the lady had no idea because her husband kept replacing them plus she had bad eyesight and couldn't tell the dog from a fur hand warmer).
If Spiner turns up, I wonder if he'll play Noonien Soong again.
We don't know how old Soong was in TNG, did we? In "Brothers" he looked well over a century old. Perhaps even 150 or thereabouts. Which would put his birth in the early 2200s...thus making 2254 a perfect time to show Soong in his prime, so to speak.

Brothers should be around around 2368, so 150 years would put Soong's birth about 2218-ish.
I'm not sure Spiner could pass for mid 30's
Memory Beta has him living from 2279-2384 (105 years).
He would have to be 175-ish in S4 to be about the right age for Spiner in DSC.
Maybe a really old Arik Soong, or Arik's son?

I don't know. That "tradition" is the product of a previous administration. Just because the Old Guard always did that (and by "always" we mean three, maybe four times, tops) doesn't mean the New Management will feel obliged to do the same, just because of "tradition."

I think Kem meant in terms of age. Archer would have been 145 when nuScotty beamed Notporthos into the abyss.
We have no idea how long humans live in Star Trekverse. But even going by Bones in Farpoint. He was 137. And Bones lived a very healthful life, aside from being one of the premier physicians in society. And by Data's response, it's easy to infer that 137 was pushing the extreme boundaries of human life expectancy.
That's not to say it isn't possible. But it's much more easy to assume the Archers became a Starfleet legacy. And since the child most likely grew up with beagles, s/he would probably have one as an adult.
I'm inclined to agree. Remember the very episode of "Babylon-5," with its seemingly endless guided tour of the station . . . ? That had me rolling my eyes even back then.
I think that the ambassador Sarek is an important role in Discovery. So, a connection with Soval ou T´Pol would be interesting (Vulcans have a long life In relation to humans).
Of course, Scott Bakula (as admiral Archer and ex-president of the United Federation of Planets) is a big name and he would bring to the attention of audience.
Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan would be incredible.
But in my opinion, a cameo (a celebrity) would have to make sense in history. He or she can’t just come from thin air.
