Picard Season 2's Time Travel Will Fix Season 1's Biggest Mistakes

Why should it?

They created it. Why would they throw out their own work?
Exactly. Yet, everyone always thinks it's going to/should happen for some reason.
The X-Men film series had no problem rewriting its own timeline permanently.
Eh, it's probably best to think of the First Class series is a separate continuity from the original trilogy, regardless of intent.

For me, the biggest mistake in PIC (where I highly enjoyed some of the earlier episodes) was the (in my eyes) very poor written finale that let every interesting storyline (android's rights, the defect borg cubus, the Search for Brian Brophy's doppelganger) conclude in a highly uninteresting "Oh shit, they have to save the whole universe"-actionbang. How is a Time Travel plot in Season 2 able to fix this? Will they travel back in time and write a new finale for Season 1?

Picard wakes up in the sonic shower - it was all a dream, Maddox has just died and noone's quite sure why. Turns out Q gave him the dream.

John DeLancie has been hinting at a MAJOR development in S3.

I'm wondering if Q is going to give Jean-Luc a chance to "regenerate" a la Dr. Who? (The show can still be called "Picard" -- it'll just be a younger actor playing Jean-Luc.)

There’s been a rumor floating around that season 3 reveals Jean-Luc has a son he never knew about (I know, what a super tired trope). I normally don’t give into these rumors but that one just sticks me for some reason, my instincts tell me there’s at least SOMEthing to it because Sir Patrick himself also said a while ago that “another human element” will be added to the show.

Maybe this is what deLancie is hinting at. That son could then also be the “replacement”. The show is called Picard, yes - but it’s never specified WHICH Picard.

Who knows?

This is a highly experimental show (just taking the concept from Short Trek to series was a science project in and of itself).

Lots of "timey wimey" stuff. ;)

Dear Gods, forgive me that I ever complained about time travel, or the lame ending of season 1, or plotting/ storytelling issues, but this would be just... ugh. And replacement, my ass. I'll just try to ignore these rumors for now.

I want to ignore this rumor as well, believe me, I think the whole “kid they never heard of” trope is SO cliché and SO soap opera (and I love some soap operas), and it makes so very little sense for Trek since birth control is very much a given thing in the Trek future and someone like Jean-Luc would never be irresponsible in this regard (which is one reason why I absolutely loathe “Bloodlines” as an episode), but it’s unusual in its nature - it doesn’t come from the usual 4chan suspects and isn’t as shrill and nonsensical; it comes from a relatively new site that HAS been right a few times by now, especially when it predicted casting/character news. I’ve been dealing with news about Sir Patrick for well over 15 years and I can tell pretty quickly by now which source/news is fake and which isn’t. This one, while it seems like fake at first glance, just has SOMEthing about it that makes me go “wait, hmm”. They either really did get the “Picard’s son” character description from a real casting sheet or they have someone who is very talented at faking casting sheets because the stuff they quoted sounded exactly like a casting sheet. They also correctly predicted that PIC’s season 2 would involve time travel long before anyone else posted the news (that was the first time I noticed them), so really, I’m not sure what to make of them. I really hope nothing comes out of this but both Sir Patrick and John de Lancie have hinted at some pretty major developments that could match this rumor, so… who knows. I wish I could say.

Hey, if Spock can have BOTH a brother and sister that we've never heard about, why can't JLP get in on the act?...

I do not know if I trust anything from a site called theilluminerdi.com ................but as happens so often with Doomcock etc........a rumor gets published, then a more reputable site mentions it and gives it bigger life. Remember Kurtzman has been fired 20 times according to the fan sites. If anything I can see Q playing Marley and giving Picard a tour of his life if he had made different choices.......

EDIT---looking through their past articles, it seems the subscribe to the click bait model of journalism........

@MrPicard if the site is a secret, can you mail the link to me? (Yeah, so much for ignoring it...)

Not a secret: https://www.theilluminerdi.com/2021/07/08/picard-season-3-new-character/

Like I said, it does seem like clickbait at first glance. But there’s just something about it, most notably the fact that their character description DOES read like an actual casting sheet. Their whole speculation around it is pure clickbait material tho, that one I gotta say. And no reputable site picked up their rumor (thankfully not), it was only the usual clickbait suspects (We Got This Covered, etc) who did.

Maybe it’s like it sometimes turns out with stuff like this - there’s a grain of truth to it, but not the way anyone thinks it is. I also would not put it past someone who works on PIC to deliberately spread a false casting sheet, just to see who falls for it. It’s what I would do, just to spite all those clickbaiters. ;)

I had seen it on Heavy.com...........someone had posted a link somewhere. I tracked it back to the origin..........Like you said the casting sheets could be legit, but THEY came up with the backstory. Time will tell.

Yup, that’s my point. The casting sheet part is the one thing that makes me go “hmm, this could be legit”. It could be totally different tho - for example, the son could be in an alternate timeline (who knows how season 2 ends, we all know how much Trek likes its time travel season cliffhangers). He could turn out to be another Jason Vigo fake. We don’t know. That’s the thing about casting sheets - you know about the characters but you don’t know how much of a role they’re going to play. Or the context in which they appear. I remember reading the (actual) casting sheet for PIC’s season 1, it gave literally nothing away about the plot except that the characters weren’t in Starfleet and that this was therefore not a series that would be set aboard a Starfleet vessel. That was the only thing you could tell through deduction. Everything else was left up to the imagination.

FWIW, the Prodigy guest character descriptions that The Illuminerdi leaked managed to include the species name Vau N' Akat before that was announced as Gwyn's species and their list of SNW character descriptions lines up surprisingly well with the actors who were subsequently announced.

Of course, the accuracy of both reports remains to be seen.

I don't know how I would feel about Picard having a secret son. That could be corny as hell... but it's certainly a well that Star Trek has visited before. Plus, it would pay off the Jean-Luc and family thread that goes all the way back to EaF and give them a way to continue the series with Sir Patrick.

If that proves to be true, it's even more of a waste of the young Romulan swordsman who should be Picard's surrogate son. There's already a father/son relationship to explore on the ship. And really for the whole crew, Jean-Luc could serve as a parental figure. I would rather they gave him a spouse (Beverly hopefully) that we have yet to hear about.
