Photoshop Enterprise!

It just occured to me that the angle of the new Enterprise pic is virtually identical to the one that started the whole sombrero phenomenon.

OK. i posted this in Trek Art so maybe I'm spamming, but this is my redo of the redo.

This is quite good. Though it's farther from the original, it has a certain unity and lack of excessive blue. I actually don't mind that they changed the ship - I accepted that months ago after I saw the trailer. But man, the ship just looks so non-kickass.

Those nacelle goiters still look dumb to me.

Oh dear...

I am afraid of what you may have just started.

It's already been started in the Blue Warp Nacelles thread!
Exactly. I was fairly certain they'd pick up on that sooner or later anyway. In fact, one wonders if it was done on purpose to make the photoshopping easier.

I thought I was imagining it until I saw all these angles... but nacelles > engineering hull. That's what seems so weird to me.

Still, seeing it from all sides makes me more comfortable. I may not like it so much at this moment but I think I can.

Check out my WIP thread over in the art section. I have updated renders over there.

I can see how JJ's E could lead to Matt's E....

Observe. Here's the new and sleek (and, IMHO, COOL) JJ-Enterprise:

Okay. Now first of all, I tip my hat to JJ and Co., for keeping the basic "idea" of Matt Jefferies's design. She's beautiful, guys. Well done! :techman:

However, as others have noted, there are some significant differences. For one, the secondary hull juts out a bit. (This is my only real beef with it, frankly.... It kinda looks wierd.) For another, the nacelles have a somewhat sleeker, more aerodynamic design. Note the "pocket" right under the main cylinder shape.

Some have asked, "Well, now that this version is supposedly "cooler" than the TOS version, why the heck would Starfleet WANT to refit it to the classic shape for the series?"

Well...let's look at possible "refits", set between the movie and the series.

This one was coined by TrekMovie.com's own Spockboy Paul:

RIGHT AWAY, with the secondary hull's "jut" removed (and some "thickening", no doubt to allow for more room for new technologies), it looks A LOT more like the "Classic-E"!

NOW...all you need to do is remove the nacelle "pockets"...change the colors of the nacelle caps and the deflector dish...complete with some decals on the nacelles and secondary hull...AND YOU HAVE THE OL' GIRL AS WE KNOW HER!!!

With the minor 21st-Century tweaks, of course (like the visible torpedo launchers, and the slight curves you see on the seconadry hull's "nacelle connectors").:)

Hey, why don't y'all try it out, and see what I mean?

BTW, please don't talk to me about Daniel Broadway's design:

Sorry...but he made the girl look fat....

Re: I can see how JJ's E could lead to Matt's E....

On the subject of one ship leading to another, the "JJ" Enterprise has an unexpected feature. It fills in the continuity between TAS's Bonaventure (first warp-drive starship) and the TOS Enterprise.

I previously thought the Bonaventure an improbably ugly starship configuration, with its "pregnant" secondary hull, jutting sensor dish, and tightly-positioned, atypical warp nacelles. But the ST XI Enterprise seems a transitional step between those features and the elegant TOS design.

So does this mean JJ Abrams considers TAS canon? And if so, will there be a reference to Yesteryear (as Trek XI is not the first time for Spock to go back in time to directly affect his life.

Actually, Rush, we have been, ever since the Enterprise image was first released. Why don't I just merge your thread with that one, and you can check out what some of our forum regulars have been up to? There are also lots to see in the Here it is - no bloody "A", "B" "C" or "D" thread.

The Spockboy one is a nice job, but then he does that a lot.
