How do you plan to celebrate the 60th Anniversary?

I'll probably take my Art Asylum TOS Enterprise outside after the stars come out and hold it up to their sparkle as assorted music cues from the series spool through my brain.

And then take an atmospheric reading with my Wand tricorder. :luvlove:

If I'm alive and kicking at 8:30pm on September 8th I'm going to be going full bore into some episode or film, even if it's not "The Man Trap."

As near as I can tell, this exact question hasn't been put forth yet, so I think I'm safe to do so. My apologies in advance if I'm wrong.

I like to commemorate things/events in little ways, so for me, I've come up with a couple of things to spread out over the rest of the year. First on my list is revisiting one of my all-time favorite TOS eps, 'City on the Edge of Forever', in the form of the graphic novel that adapted Harlan's original screenplay. Read it (the graphic novel) once, years ago and remember being impressed with it. This seems as good a time as any to read it again.

My next Trek read, closer to the beginning of September, is Inspired Enterprise by Glen E. Swanson, which my wife got me for Christmas and I quickly decided to wait until the week of the 60th rolled around to read it. If anyone out there has already read this, I'd love to know what you think.

In December I plan to re-watch for the umpteenth time my favorite Trek movie, TMP; not sure which way I'll go this time, the 4k Director's Edition, or my blu-ray copy of the theatrical. For all it's flaws, I'm still rather fond of that version, simply because that's the movie I saw on December 23, 1979. Big time nostalgia.

And finally, looking forward to David Mack's new TOS novel Echoes in Eternity, due in October (I have already broadly hinted to the Missus that this would make a wonderful Christmas present this year).

OK, it's time for everyone else to share their plans for Trek's 60th. I'm sure there will a quite a few that are more elaborate than my own.

:D

Good question. Lots of negativity unfortunately in this thread.

We are within the 60th year now and it will be completed Sept. 7. So i figure we should all be celebrating a bit right now. I actually watched TMP the other day. But wasn't specifically thinking 60th. Just felt like watching to after getting my Tomy Refit Enterprise. 😂...But now I'm going to start watching Trek with the 60th in mind and will probably watch all of TOS by the 7th of Sept. I have the Blu rays and will definitely be watching with the original effects. Haven't watched the whole show through in years and while I probably have a good portion to memory it's comfort food of course so it should be fun.

Trek doesn't resonant with me the way it did when I was younger. Which is normal I'm sure. I'm still a fan but there hasn't been much Trek for me since 2005. I have watched all the live action stuff since 2009 but most of it has just been blah to me with a few bright spots.

So the 60th for me will be celebrating TOS. THAT'S the Trek turning 60. Not the other shows. If I have time I may watch some of the Berman stuff and films.

I also may purchase a shirt or something..I'm sure some will be available..I don't have any Trek clothing. Which is crazy that I don't..

That was my intent, though in retrospect, I guess I could've been a bit more clear about what I was driving at. Not so much the actual anniversary day, but the anniversary year in general.

Watch a fan edit of 2009 and then Balance of Terror.
I'd go for all the remaining scenes of TOS after a total deShatnerization. For our protection, obviously.:borg:
Speaking of Shore Leave, they're promising to have a TOS cast member in attendance in honor of the 60th anniversary, but they haven't revealed which one yet.

Obviously, there are only three options: Shatner, Takei, or Koening. I'm selfishly hoping for Koenig since I have a new Chekov-centric novel out.
I'm guessing Cheekoof.

Hmm... I'd like to think I'd do something like watch one episode of every series and at least one of the movies.
I'm liking the sound of this more and more. I don't think I would want to do either production order or timeline order because I would absolutely want an episode of Starfleet Academy in the mix, and it would be the final watch in both instances, and the possibility would exist that I couldn't complete the list on the day.

ETA: And I'm off on Tuesdays.

10 years back I included PRACTICAL JOKER and MUDD'S PASSION, KITUMBA, BLOOD AND FIRE, BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, CAPTAIN'S HOLIDAY, Q-PID, RASCALS, MORE TRIBBLES MORE TROUBLES plus the DS9 sequel, all the WRATH OF KHAN scenes from the Reliant attack on, the kidney miracle moment from VOYAGE HOME, Kirk's intro in TMP, McCoy and Spock's appearances in FARPOINT and UNIFICATION, the unforgettable Gilbert & Sullivan tribute in INSURRECTION, Kirk's croaking in GENERATIONS, Scotty's return in RELICS, and SEARCH FOR SPOCK, UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, FIRST CONTACT and INTO DARKNESS in their entireties. It took a few weeks, as it was usually in the mornings for my brother, who'd seen only a handful of these moments previously. It's more satisfying to show what you know to someone who's less familiar with it. So we had no need for the TOS episodes at all, as we've thoroughly memorized the @#$%ers anyway.:borg:
