Orphan Black - Season 3 Discussion

I finished Season 2 of OB tonight and I think on a binge watch, Season 2 was a lot better than I originally thought it was. Yeah it might have been a bit of a let down because the clones were kind of separated for all of the season in their own storylines (which was my big complaint about the season) but they did a great job building the big picture. On this rewatch I was trying to figure out Paul and they did a good job dropping hints about who Paul was and why he was back in the military, especially revealing in the much maligned "Tony" episode that yeah he was a ghost and he was working under cover.

Those final two episodes (By Means...Done and By Means...Tried) really make for a great two parter watched back to back.

Did you appreciate Season 2 after you rewatched it, did you think it was on par of Season 1 or do you still think it was a bit of a let down? Now I'm really looking forward to Season 3, especially with Season 2 being more fresh and not having to wait a full year for it.

Orphan Black is without a doubt my favorite current TV series along with The Americans. I've already bought my season pass on Amazon for Season 3. :)

I did too, but on ITunes. Have never done the season pass thing before.

I gave up on spending money on cable, now I just buy what I actually want to see from Amazon. Not that Amazon has everything, but it does have a lot. At least now my money is only spent on something I'll actually watch.

I think I'll go back watch the season two finale where all the clones get together. What a wonderful scene to see all the clones in one room.

It really was. The Dance Party was one thing, but the scene right before it with Helena and Kira was adorable.

I just noticed -- according to my Comcast Box, AMC and IFC channels will simulcast the BBC 3rd season premiere this Saturday 8pm (9pm EST).Is that right?

According to this web site...

Will this help Tatiana Maslany win an Emmy (or at least get nominated)?

I think it's just for the premiere. I hope it gets Tat more exposure.

Big, big bonus.

I just now finished my S1 & S2 rewatch, so I'm ready to go.

When I was doing my rewatch, I actually found Season 2 a lot better on the binge than following it week to week. I hope Season 3 is great, but I do wonder if I will see Season 3 the same way. Watch the season, enjoy it but really not get a full grasp on it until months from now.

Yeah, I think all the episodes are so high energy, that waiting a week is a bit of a letdown.

For the most part I was watching 1 a day during the week and 2-4 on the weekend.

Okay, things are already happening fast. Still a pretty fun show, though some of it is a bit weird. Why did Delphine have Sarah play Rachel and Alison play Sarah? Why not just have Alison play Rachel and Sarah play herself?

What strikes me is how I only had to look at "Sarah" in the cell for two seconds, before she even spoke, and I realized "That's Alison!" It must be something to do with the makeup as well as Maslany's expressions. Or maybe something to do with the bangs, which were still present even with her hair made wavy. Somehow, Alison is the one who, to me, looks the least like the other sisters. I always have trouble remembering she's actually played by the same actress as the others. I sometimes have trouble remembering with all of them, in fact, but especially with her.

Why did Delphine have Sarah play Rachel and Alison play Sarah? Why not just have Alison play Rachel and Sarah play herself?

Sarah is an experienced con artist, and she's actually interacted with Rachel. Alison has less experience, but she's played Sarah before and Ferdinand doesn't know Sarah well enough to pick up on any mistakes.

^Hmm, I guess that makes sense. Still, the real reason was just because the writers wanted to play around with more impersonations.

Was looking up the actress who plays Delphine because she looks familiar but her credits mostly look to be French(-Canadian I assume) titles but you can search for Cronenberg The Nest on Youtube if you want to see a very bizarre psychological horror short where she's topless through the entirety. Turns out it wasn't where I remembered her from... :wtf:

Yeah, Alison has never met Rachel, so impossible for her to be Rachel.

They must have really rushed Alison in there, she didn't look like Sarah at all.

I figured from the preview shots that wasn't Rachel. Tatiana stands, walks and even looks a very specific way for Rachel. Her eyes are more squinty, she literally "looks" haughty.

Which makes her an even better actress than we thought. It can be obvious (to us) that she's Sarah being Rachel and not just being Rachel.

Too bad such subtleties are lost on the Emmys & Golden Globes.
