Orphan Black - Season 3 Discussion

Great finale. I wasn't as emotional impacted by Delphine being shot as I think a lot of people were, but that might have to do with being a little spoiled before I saw the episode and I wasn't really a big fan of her or that love triangle this whole season. I hope she survives but I wonder who it was that shot her. I don't think it's Shay as that might be a little too predictable.

I think the thing I loved most about this finale were all the tender moments. The dinner party was so much more enjoyable than the dance party from last year because it didn't feel forced. It felt like these people have been through hell and back this season and it was just a good idea to lay low and just celebrate each other. I also enjoyed Helena and Jesse's reunion and hope we see more Jesse next year. That's really my favorite relationship on the show. I'm really glad too that they ended the season with Helena not being captured and Sarah and Kira reunited. That was a beautiful scene and that might have helped ease some of the Delphine being shot, oh my god, tension.

I loved this season more than the last and it looks like Season 4 will just continue to get better. We know about Neolution, so this will almost feel like going back to season 1, and maybe the clones won't split up. Also looking forward to seeing more Susan Duncan (Which was a great moment by the way), Rachel, and Krystal.

Also, when the Worm came out of Dr. Nealan's mouth, did anyone (Since we're all Trek fans) get reminded of the Parasites from TNG's Conspiracy? Since I've been reading Unity (DS9 Relaunch, despite I need to restart it because it's been a while), the Parasitic Aliens have been on my sci fi mind lately and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw that scene.

The season finale almost felt like a series finale....have they had word about season 4? Seems like a foregone conclusion they'd have easily 1 more season if not many more.

Donnie seems to have solidifed his emotional bond with Helena...she will now clearly think of him as a loving Brother in Law (what's that version of Seestra?), and will more than ever fight to protect Alison's family.

Also nice was Sarah being reunited with Kira. Somehow, i sense a time jump happening, however. Kira can't be holding on too much longer to being a little girl.

While the election seemed anti-climatic, I think the dinner where they basically celebrated it, and Alison thanked everyone for their part in it, really made sense.

Next season, however, I expect Marcie to go snooping & discover Alison's drug trade, and the subplot will be how to stop her, with or without killing her. (Maybe make her go crazy with all the clones).

I too wonder who shot Delphine. She seemed to be some Delphine knew. Was it actually Thea under mind control (oops, wrong show)? It was nice that Delphine could at least close her relationship with Cosima in a nice way. Wonder if she was expecting to be killed?

Now, is Kendall really a #CloneClub sister, or their mother? Sounds as complicated as a Jerry Springer show relationship.

Rachel's new eye seems kinda dumb..like an excuse for Tatiana NOT to wear an eyepatch - like Fish Mooney on Gotham. I suppose we can somehow expect Rachel to imitate someone else (maybe excuse her speech as being drunk?)

Speaking of other shows ... maybe this is a crossover with "The Strain?"

Also, I've noticed Fox has had several ads for their shows saying "For your Emmy Consideration". How can we get a campaign going for Tatiana Maslany for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and even Best Guest Appearance? #EmmyConsideration

I was rather pleased that the Leda and Castor original(s) they had spent a season seeking turned out to be a chainsmoking old lady with a foul mouth who hates everything.

Helena faces her killer who she seems to recognize and asks "what will happen to her?" Is she talking about Cosima?

And are they going to leave Kendall in Iceland with Kira to hide her? Seems unfair to Kira to put this most sought after person in her safe place.

I'm kinda glad they went with the Neolutionists as the next adversary instead of another new group.
I think they were passed off as harmless in S1 like the Proletheans, but they turned out very dangerous.

They have been renewed for season 4, yes. I gather they're planning on 5 in all.

I think I heard Helena mention a "brother sestra" in her toast or something. I figured that probably meant Donnie.

When Nealon died, he told Delphine "You'll be dead within hours," or something like that. Her subsequent scenes with Shay and Cosima were informed by that awareness that she was marked for death; she was wrapping things up before the end, saying her goodbyes. (Actually I thought Nealon meant that his blood had poisoned her when it fell on her mouth. Turned out it meant that his Neolutionist cronies had a hit out on her.)

Genetically, she's as much their twin sister as they are to each other (leaving aside the chimerical male cells). Although you could make a case that they're essentially her parthenogenetic offspring. The show is going with "older sister," though, and I guess what matters most is how the characters choose to define their relationship. (I'm sure Sarah will continue to think of Siobhan as her mother rather than her niece.)

That seems likely, considering this Variety interview with John Fawcett. (Careful, even the URL contains spoilers for the finale.)
It was really important for us in one of our most complex seasons to end with a lot of answers and feel like we’ve had some triumph and victory, and be in a place at the end of season three where we could go “now we can take a breather, we can reset.” We didn’t want to end the season in some giant cliffhanger that meant we were gonna have to start exactly where we left off. We wanted to feel resolution and have more of an emotional ending to season three, so that it gave us a chance to reset for the beginning of season four.

That does strongly suggest that there will be a time jump.

And here's Fawcett on shooting the dinner party:
The sequence took two days to shoot, and so all the actors — I think Kevin [Hanchard] who plays Art was only there for one day because I think he had a commitment on another day, so I shot around that. But all the other actors were there for two days and we basically did two clones per day, and did a lot of technodolly motion control angles moving around the table. It’s certainly a huge technical challenge for Tat because by the end of that scene… one of the things that I still laugh at, I cannot get enough of, is these weird improvised moments that happened right at the end of the take where they’re quizzing Helena about the baking that she brought. None of that was scripted, and it’s very weird to improvise with a character who’s not on screen. I had to start with Alison, so Alison started asking invisible Helena questions, and we didn’t shoot Helena until the next day, so everyone’s responding to this weird improvisation that went over two days and had to be pieced together. It’s still one of the funniest moments — I laugh every time I watch it.

I think I heard Helena mention a "brother sestra" in her toast or something. I figured that probably meant Donnie.

That makes sense. It's how she refers to Felix--her brother sestra--so recognizing Donnie in this familial way fits right into Helena thought process.

I knew Delphine was gonna die the second she drove into a parking garage. The only reason to drive into a parking garage in a TV series is to get ambushed.

WHAT was with the worm in the guy's mouth?!!?!? I know this is a sci fi show, but... come ON now! It brings to mind X-Files and Trek and B5 episodes where people were controlled by intelligent parasites. I don't think I'd like this show getting THAT far out. I'm down with cloning and conspiracies, but keeping it to known biological keeps the show believable.

Helena vs Rudy - I have never seen a scene like that. Just amazing. Brutally murderous (the screwdriver thru the arm got to me!), then her lying down next to him to comfort him... just wow. The show constantly surprises.

Okay, why did S arrange for a tub full of acid? I get that she was probably trying to threaten her mother with it. But it just came in so damn handy, totally coincidentally. That was a lot of trouble for an idle threat to Ma.

Oh, and... Allison has another body in the garage to get rid of. Get the picks..

I don't think there was anything idle about it. On the one hand, she needed to ensure that Castor didn't get her DNA, because they could use it to create a horrible weapon targeting women. On the other hand, she blamed Kendall (correctly?) for killing her husband. So she was quite seriously willing to kill Kendall and destroy every last trace of her DNA. (That's why Kendall was in the clean suit before, so she wouldn't shed any hair or skin cells that Castor could collect later.) Acid was probably a better option than cremation, because a plume of smoke rising from the warehouse could draw unwanted attention.

And I guess this means that S could not shoot Kendall first and then dump her in acid because any blood would be DNA. Maybe they would at least suffocate her?

Once again I waited a while to watch this, so most of what I have to say has already been said.

I do however love that Neolution is being brought back, and as the bad guys no less. I can see them definitely being the antagonists through the end of the series (assuming the plan to end it with five is still on the table).

What really surprised me though is Ferdinand going crazy on that bald Neolutionist when he found out they had Rachel, and then essentially telling Sarah that he was on her side now. That came out of nowhere and just floored me and I loved it. Also since we saw Charlotte at the end does that mean that Michelle Forbes' character is a Neolutionist? I bet it does, she's part of Top Side and the Doctor with the worm in his mouth was part of Dyad, and they were both working it from the inside out.

My question/comments are coming in way after the finale. I have been playing catch up.

When Delphine is shot she says something along the lines of what will happen to her (?). She seemed pretty horrified. That makes me think it is Shay or someone else really close to Cosima. She handed Shay some plastic (key?) cards that read "Dyad" and told Shay to tell Cosima to tell her (Shay) everything. Who else but Shay would leave Delphine so horrified? They only two people really close to Cosima other than her sisters are Scott and Felix. I just can't imagine Scott being a plant.

Ferdinand switching sides so quickly worked for me. He seems almost obsessed with Rachel.

Rachel's mom being alive was a little meh for me. With Charlotte showing up and saying that Rachel would be her new mom, does that mean someone offed Ro (can't remember her character's name on OB)?
