Old Star Trek fans: don't you sometimes get happy just because there are new series?

Reminded me a little of this...

I think it speaks to how much of a nerd I am about Star Trek that it bothers me that they put Sulu and Chekov on the wrong sides of the main console.

Sulu is supposed to be on the right, Chekov on the left.

After what I saw of TNG, no. (And I was VERY excited for TNG before it actually aired.) None of the other 24th century era show announcements got me excited as I all felt they were in the same terrible mediocre vein that was ST:TNG

As for Enterprise, given it was still run by B&B, even with different and 'pre-TOS' era, I thought they still screw the pooch in many respects and they did for the first two seasons. S3 was interesting for what it tried to do and S4 (under show runner Manny Coto) was amazing. But no, I wasn't excited when it was announced either back in the day.

I was excited for Star Trek Discovery BECAUSE they said it was set in my personal favorite Trek era - the TOS TV 23rd century era (I like that era still way more then the TOS feature film era.)

I LOVED the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery (especially season two) and was utterly disappointed when they jumped to the utterly boring and poorly executed 32nd century era and I don't expect much from nor am I at all excited for the upcoming Star Fleet Academy series, and count m out if they every actually do a "Legacy" series with Terry Matalas as show runner. Remember he also ran PICARD S2 :barf:.

The above said, I was over the top excited when STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS was first announced and confirmed - and am Jonesing for S3, happy they already greenlit S4; and hope they continue to get renewed (But given how streaming works, anything past S5 would be iffy WRT renewal IMO.)

No longer unfortunately.
Fandom wanted Legacy, more LD and longer seasons of SNW.
But we get S:31 which looks horrible, an Academy series nobody ever wanted and now a Trek.. sitcom??
I'll still watch them but no, no longer excited about anything Trek related.
Thankfully the producers do not rely on fandom to decide content since fandom are not a monolithic group. TNG, DS9 etc would not exist if Trek listened to fandom in the 1980's.

Trek died in 2005 cuz the so called old producers were not listening to the fans.
The Kelvin Timeline died cuz the new producers didn't listen to the fans.
Discovery is gone and so is LD and Prodigy, cuz again fandom was ignored.
The only Trek that's surviving is SNW cuz fandom wants it.
We are nearly halfway in the 2020s. It isn't the 1980s anymore.

Non-Trek:
Fandom wanted Lucifer, it thrived after cancellation.
Fandom wants Dexter, two more shows coming.
Fandom hated Acolyte, She-Hulk and more recently, Condord. They're all dead lol.

No, that’s not the reason that ENT was cancelled.

The Kelvin Timeline died cuz the new producers didn't listen to the fans.

No, it’s also not the reason the Kelvin movies have ground to a halt.

Discovery is gone and so is LD and Prodigy, cuz again fandom was ignored.

No, this is silly. These shows were not cancelled because the producers didn’t listen to fans.

Have you actually got a point to make? I think the post you made is very strange.

It's not? Don't shows get canceled because the ratings suck? Don't the ratings suck because people don't watch the show? Don't people stop watching shows because they are no longer satisfied with the show?

If ENT had the same ratings as TNG or DS9, wouldn't it have last Rd longer?

But that's not "listening to fans." There were fans clamoring for TNG's cancellation because of the lack of Kirk and Spock. ENT would have been cancelled far before Season 4.

Gaining ratings and listening to fans are two different things, with some overlap but nowhere near enough to guarantee a success. People will swear up and down they'll never buy something again, yet still do. Likewise, if only they would make "X" (show, movie, merchandise) I would definitely buy it. And they never do.

And it's not just the fans that need to remain engaged. So, no, listening to fans or not is not why these shows were cancelled.
