This one is going to open big, just north of $75 million . . . a little less if the weather is especially nice and people stay outdoors. It will go strong for at least a couple of weekends and then drop fast.

I've been doing more research and something called HSX (which people keep banging on about) has Trek making a minimum of $65 million OW with a minimum of $180 million in the North America Box Office. This HSX any good ?

good numbers though for minimums.

Ham - Fifteen screens for Wolverine - although I expect that to drop significantly over the next week as ST eats up screens. Plus once WOM starts circulating that W is really bad, people will stay away in droves.

And I should note that Perth is a city of a little over 1 million and it seems like every second suburb now has one of these eight screen googleplexes and ALL of them have MULTIPLE sessions for Thursday opening day for ST.

I'm starting to think a $100 million dollar opening weekend, MAY not be out of the realm of possibility!

For what it is, Hollywood Stock Exchange (HSX) seems to have a pretty decent track record matching predictions to actuals -- good enough that some real investors follow what is essentially a game.

Then mid 60's for minimum and thats not including Thursday night showings apparantly is looking like a great start for J Trek.

Cineworld in Glasgow City Centre have 19 screenings of Star Trek today, and 21 screenings per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before scaling it back to 17 screenings a day from Monday. Their other cinema in Parkhead, which only has something like 4 or 5 screens, is showing Trek 4 times a day until the end of next week.

IMAX at the Glasgow Science Centre has a premiere screening tonight at 10pm, followed by 3 showings a day for the next fortnight.

Bearing in mind that Glasgow is a relatively small city of 650,000 people with a metro area of just over 1.4 million, I think this level of promotion and screening time/space is absolutely great for Star Trek.

Man I am getting excited I just realized in just four days or so (on Sunday) we will know the actual box office! I cant believe Trek XI is finally here! :techman:

I saw the film this morning. It was very good and hugely enjoyable.

I have plenty of criticisms, and it's nowhere near perfect. But there was a lot that was also good. However, I suspect the hard core will loathe it with a passion.

There's a thread on here regarding a review saying the cinematography was appalling. That view I agree with. But it's such the norm now that my eyes tend to glaze over when I'm not allowed to focus on anything, allowing my brain to have a momentary sleep before normal viewing commences.

I will have to wait for a sequel before this film becomes part of my Star Trek world. It was just a bit too shallow and popcorny.

Box Office Guru has his prediction up: $71 million for the three-day weekend and $75 million with the Thursday night number included. That sounds about right to me.

I hope this movie is the Iron Man/Dark Knight of 2009. I expect it to get between 50 and 100 million. More than that would be awesome though.

Latest from Deadline Hollywood:

91% of online ticket sales for Star Trek: That's the latest from big online ticket seller Fandango which also reports that Star Trek has sold out hundreds of opening weekend showtimes across the country, including showtimes in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Charlotte, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, Fresno, Seattle, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Colorado Springs, Indianapolis, Nashville, and Portland, Oregon. Fandango says its Star Trek ticket sales are far outpacing the site’s sales for X-Men Origins: Wolverine at the same point in that film’s sales cycle. Theater managers are adding multiple Thursday night showtimes to meet the fan demand. Also, according to a Fandango survey of more than 4,000 moviegoers planning to see Star Trek, 64% say they are not upset that William Shatner isn’t in the movie.
If it opens to around $75 million that would be awesome, but maybe it's going to really take off and open a good bit higher. Here's hoping.
