Some post viewing analysis. I saw Star Trek this afternoon at Cineworld (14.20 showing), and considering it was a Thursday afternoon, in an utterly vast 700 seat theatre, I was actually very impressed by the turnout. I'd guess there were easily more than 400 people in the performance I saw, and that was only one of 19 screenings today.
The audience seemed to be made up of the general public, rather than Trek geeks, although there were a few in evidence. They very definitely seemed to be on board with this new vision for Trek, with all the funny bits eliciting good amounts of laughter, and all the tense, dramatic parts eliciting a hushed, expectant feeling in the audience.
Personally, I thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable, spectacular movie that pays considerably more than lip service to its origins. My mate, who was, until now, utterly ambivalent about all things Star Trek, said just after we'd left that he wants to go see it again on Friday night!
Also, as a Scot, I can say with some authority that Simon Pegg's Scottish accent is considerably more than passable, although he does occasionally become slightly "Auch Aye Tha Noo Cap'n!" in his delivery.
