Its looking more and more like this will be 60-something million for 3 days (Fri, Sat, Sun) + 5-10million on Thursday.

I'm gonna say it makes a $100 million weekend.

I'll see this movie AT LEAST twice in the theaters (IMAX and regular screen).

It's going with about 72 mil opening weekend, but I think this film is a little hard to predict. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 100+ opening weekend. This film will no doubt have better legs than wolverine though, and I think with the good reviews will not see that bad of a drop off with Angels and Demons coming out the next week.

My local cineplex had 8+ showings for Wolverine during it's opening weekend. That has been scaled down to 4 for this week.

Star Trek has 4 showings for Thursday, and 3 for Friday. I don't think it can beat half of Wolverine's total if a lot of theatres are limiting screens like this.

I predict that it'll do well on opening weekend, yet many people here will claim that it's a disappointment because it didn't match the opening weekend of the poorly reviewed Wolverine......not realizing that whether a movie is good or not doesn't really have anything to do with how much $ it makes on opening weekend.

It will NOT match Wolverine opening weekend, absolutely no way. NO NO NO.

I would love it to but it simply wont.

I don't know what small town you live in but my local cinema has FOURTEEN sessions for Thursday opening day!!!

Who the hell runs that place? why would they only have half the showings for trek then Wolverine? is the owner anti-trek or something?:wtf:

I think 75-100...narrowed down to 80-85.

Yup. However if this stays above 85-90% on RT and great reviews keep coming, it might be higher.
It might, but I doubt it. I think 85 is it's absolute upper limit. While it may be kick ass, it's still kick ass sci-fi. It's doesn't have the wide audience that a comic or action flick has.

And I do think Trek still has a stigma attached to it. Hopefully the BIBLICAL FLOOD of advertising has put a big dent into it. But I don't think these reviews will make a difference one way or another. For one, no one really reads them except people like us who made up our minds to see this movie decades ago, and two...those negative reviews didn't do much damage to Wolfie.

Yes but X3 was largely considered a HUGE disappointment and made less than X2. ST is helped by incredible WOM and critics having orgasms over it. Wolverine had a leaked workprint that was universally shat on and derided, followed by a largely unaltered(in terms of run time)proper release.

Did it? Box Office Mojo shows X2 with $407,711,549 gross total against X3's $459,359,555. They were released only three years apart, so I don't imagine that inflation makes that big a diff.

I stand corrected.

I was going off memory, which was wrong. I guess, in my recollection of three being SO bad, I had rewritten it as underperforming.

But we ALL know it SHOULD have made FAR less.

;)

Probably money continued to creep in for a while after folks stopped paying attention to the running totals, or something - this is far from the first time I've read that X2 made more than X3.

How does that compare to the sessions they had for Wolverine though?

My city is only 100,000 people, and only has 1 cinema and it only has 4 showings Thurs and 3 Friday for Star Trek.
