O'Brien out, Leno back in?

Yep..Zucker is a moron. Moving the tonight show to 1205 is a stupid idea. They are only doing this for Leno. What if he died one week into his abbreviated show? Would they, yet again, move the Tonight show back to 1135?

I beleive the responsibly then falls to the President Pro-Tempore of the Senate.

LOL..that was actually funny!!!

Then allow me to introduce the new host of The Tonight Show...

Heeeeere's Robert!

Intense, but the way NBC is playing it there is really no way Conan and his staff can't come out of it smelling like a rose. NBC has done everything wrong, Conan has done everything right. Even that press release his team didn't want him to do was the right move. It set him up as the protector of the Tonight Show Legacy, a man willing to get tossed to the street before he aids the destruction of one of the last remaining institutions of Television. He was humble, smart, and played it just right to turn himself into the martyr of late night tv.

I think this is also why the other late night hosts are closing ranks around him.

Even without that statement, I think the other hosts would have sided with Conan. It's always been obvious that they never had a very high opinion of Jay's safe and generic brand of comedy.

Speaking of which, I loved Letterman's little under-the-breath dig at Leno and his "Headlines" last night. lol

I've been watching the various clips from the different late night personalities joking about the NBC situation. My question is why does Letterman continually take low blow, potshots at Carson Daly? Daly, who has been quiet on this entire matter, has not really been a player in this. If I was Daly, I would be wondering what I ever did to Letterman to receive the continued bashing.

Because it's just a funny situation. Daly is literally the bastard stepchild in all of this... he's given the latest show, and he literally gets no respect. I think Letterman is just poking fun.

Maybe...but Letterman comes off as a but malicious, especially since he hasn't made any direct jabs towards Conan nor Fallon.

Letterman's a dick. That is not news.

True, but Conan's statement ratcheted it up a little. Plus, it was a sharp enough poke at corpora NBC to make them froth at the mouth and over react back.

Um, no, that's still more Leno-bashing. Once again, Leno didn't want to leave The Tonight Show, he was told he was leaving five fricking years ago. Leno isn't the heavy here because he didn't want to leave the show to begin with. The only one who ruined O'Brien's show (and Leno's show for that matter) was NBC...

Yeah to be fair to Leno, he kinda got screwed in all this too. Whether you like his humor or not, his Tonight Show WAS doing really well. And we shouldn't just assume what he's doing now is motivated purely by ego-- I'm sure he's probably trying to look out for his staff the same way Conan is right now.

That said... Leno DID agree to leave five years ago. I'm sure if he wanted to stay he could have put his foot down then, and not let NBC push him around.

Umm..no. LENO was told five years he was leaving. If he didn't like it, five years ago, he should have made a big stink of it..then. Not now.

So..no...LENO is the heavy here for accepting this plan five years ago and now whining about it. If he didn't like it HE should have been the one going to Fox. Pure and simple..

Um, that's why I put the "That said..." in there.

Obviously, in the end, Leno should be the one going; I'm just saying I feel a bit bad for him in all this too.

Leno should've said something years ago if he didn't like the deal. He didn't. Now he's trying to play the innocent "well if they want me back" angle. Fuck him. He is the heavy, he had his time and he didn't have the class to move on when the writing was on the wall. Sorry that he didn't like the news that the inevitable generational change on the Tonight Show was coming.....but he had almost twenty years on the show and that's a good ride.

He should've had the balls to stand up then, or the class to get the hell out.

Leno was also told that his 10 pm show would have a two year commitment and that he would have the time necessary to build the audience. Now he's being yanked off the air after only four months.

Look, the simple fact is that NBC did absolutely everything wrong here. Leno's being screwed, Conan's being screwed, and possibly even Jimmy Fallon and Carson Daly are being screwed depending on how this plays out. Leno and Conan are not the bad guys here. NBC is.

Yeah, Leno's totally getting boned by being given the Tonight Show.

Leno is the bad guy here. He wants to go back to the 1135 timeslot; he has never been happy about leaving that gig, and he has made it obvious since he left; well he left. Conan got the gig. When Leno's show flopped, and it did, he should have taken the buy out terms and left; but NBC didn't want to pay the 20 million so they dangled the 1135 slot.

The only reason why this is even happening is because LENO agreed to go back to the 1135 slot. Everyone knows this; and that is why Leno is the bad guy. After his 1000 show bombed, he should have taken the 20millioin and 'gone off' into the sunset like carson..or hell..gone to FOX.

Leno..the bad guy.

Except that it didn't happen like that. You keep blaming Leno for something that was neither his decision nor something that he wanted to do.

Leno was willing to walk out into the sunset. It was NBC that offered him a prime-time show at the last minute. The only thing Leno is guilty of is still wanting to work, and since when does that make anyone "the heavy?" Leno didn't force NBC to do anything. He still isn't forcing them to do anything. This is a decision from on high, and Leno is taking the "What will be, will be" approach he's always had.

Carson has been worthless ever since he left TRL.

You gotta give the guy props though. He has a cockroach like ability to stay alive. Everyone at the time said "Why are you leaving TRL?" Well guess what he still has a talk show on NBC (granted the last minutes of NBC's programming day) and TRL has been canceled on MTV for like a year now?
