O'Brien out, Leno back in?

Yeah but who wants to host the show of your dreams if it turns out the dream is handled by people who don't give a shit about you? There's a difference between being stuck with the dream and realizing that the dream is perhaps somewhere else.

All I know is I've always liked Conan but the last few episodes have been fantastic!

My thoughts too. When Conan was slated to take over The Tonight Show, I was ecstatic. Then we saw that NBC corporate had their hands in the mix, which is always bad, and finally we see the results of that, and for Conan, this just isn't it, but people won't forget how NBC treated him and is still treating him. I think Comcast will fire these execs if only to clear the foul stench in the air from their actions.

Scary. Even more reason for Conan to pack up and leave.

This is really all LENO's fault. He should have just left NBC, after his show flopped. He comes off looking like the bad guy, and has given LETTERMAN fodder to shoot his mouth off.

Bad move JAY...bad bad move.
So it's LENO's fault for not falling on his sword to make people who don't watch his show anyway happy?

Nah, that's just Leno-bashing. This was purely a bungle on the part of NBC. They were the ones who decided that Leno was going to leave The Tonight Show and be replaced by O'Brien. They were the ones who approached Leno about doing a weekday primetime show. Both guys took the opportunities presented to them--and correctly so. Both Leno and O'Brien are the victims here of NBC trying to have it both ways and then panicking at the first signs of trouble, IMO.

The difference is that O'Brien is telling NBC to f-themselves, while Leno's just doing what he's told (which is how most people stay working at NBC probably). If NBC had the balls to cancel The Jay Leno Show or reduce it to one night a week or whatever, then this mess probably wouldn't be happening...

Indeed. This could very well give him the opportunity to create a new show on another network that will become just as popular as The Tonight Show. He could be making television history here.

No, it's Leno's fault for saying he'd retire and then changing his mind (thus prompting NBC to offer him a primetime slot to keep him from moving to another network) and then screwing over O'Brien by not stepping up and refusing to take O'Brien's timeslot (which he ought to do if he had any respect for the Tonight Show franchise).

I've been watching the various clips from the different late night personalities joking about the NBC situation. My question is why does Letterman continually take low blow, potshots at Carson Daly? Daly, who has been quiet on this entire matter, has not really been a player in this. If I was Daly, I would be wondering what I ever did to Letterman to receive the continued bashing.

Because it's just a funny situation. Daly is literally the bastard stepchild in all of this... he's given the latest show, and he literally gets no respect. I think Letterman is just poking fun.

Yep..Zucker is a moron. Moving the tonight show to 1205 is a stupid idea. They are only doing this for Leno. What if he died one week into his abbreviated show? Would they, yet again, move the Tonight show back to 1135?

Leno is at fault here for many reasons. He knew this day was coming FIVE FRICKING years ago when they announced it. He should have just gone away, like Carson did. He had his time..now he's ruining Obrien's show, and could quite frankly ruin the Tonight show forever because of his unwillingness to leave, and maybe go to Fox....

Jay is the heavy here.

I wonder if this will be the best thing that has ever happened to Conan. I mean, if this works like it did for Letterman and CBS, Conan could be on the air for years (I'm assuming at FOX). I know this is stretching it, especially since this was Conan's dream job to host The Tonight Show, but trying to look at things with perspective here...

I think you are right...it was Letterman's dream job too...heck, even Carson wanted Letterman to take it over when he retired, right? Conan's young enough to feasibly host a show for another 15-20 years...I think it would be freaking awesome for Conan to go through next week, do his thing to NBC and during his closing lines on Friday, pull out a contract with Fox and sign it on the air.

Not that NBC would let that air, but still, it would be the height of awesomeness... :D

I think celebrities should ban together and refuse to be on the Tonight Show if Leno takes it back over.

Zucker is getting right up there with Les Moonves in my mind for worst television network president ever. Well at least Les is keeping CBS at #1 which is more then I can say Zucker. Forget the Conan/Leno issue, all of NBC's other failing alone recently should get Zucker fired. Soes anyone now when the Comcast deal will be finalized?

I beleive the responsibly then falls to the President Pro-Tempore of the Senate.

Because Carson Daly is a loser that no one cares about and that's why when mentioning the time shift by 30 minutes no has ever said that Carson Daly would move to 2am.

He is a loser, no one knows why he has a show. Was it Craig that said "Having a show at 2am is like not having a show at all".

Maybe...but Letterman comes off as a but malicious, especially since he hasn't made any direct jabs towards Conan nor Fallon.

Zucker Threatens to Ice Conan -- "I'll Keep You Off The Air For 3 1/2 Years"

This is getting pretty intense, if that report is at all accurate.

Intense, but the way NBC is playing it there is really no way Conan and his staff can't come out of it smelling like a rose. NBC has done everything wrong, Conan has done everything right. Even that press release his team didn't want him to do was the right move. It set him up as the protector of the Tonight Show Legacy, a man willing to get tossed to the street before he aids the destruction of one of the last remaining institutions of Television. He was humble, smart, and played it just right to turn himself into the martyr of late night tv.

I think this is also why the other late night hosts are closing ranks around him.

You kidding, that is more PR than Daly gets from NBC in a year in the last few months, he's probably loving it.

Letterman said that.

In these parts, Daly is preempted for an hour, his show starts at 2:30 A.M.

Except that isn't the way it happened at all.

Leno didn't retire, he was forced out by NBC to make room for O'Brien. Leno was happy doing The Tonight Show, but NBC wanted to move in O'Brien.

They have now changed their minds.

It wasn't Leno's fault for decisions made by the network.

Um, no, that's still more Leno-bashing. Once again, Leno didn't want to leave The Tonight Show, he was told he was leaving five fricking years ago. Leno isn't the heavy here because he didn't want to leave the show to begin with. The only one who ruined O'Brien's show (and Leno's show for that matter) was NBC...
