NYCC Season 3 Trailer

Worf being a pacifist now makes sense as a men who commanded the federations flagship in the past.

With the NCC-1701, I think it's a special case. In TMP, Decker says, "This is an almost totally new Enterprise." If you look at the ship in TMP compared to the look in either TOS or SNW (your choice), I believe it. Any way you slice it, the Enterprise in TMP is a new ship for all intents and purposes. And Morrow in TSFS has no idea what the Hell he's talking about.

So it's really more like this:

NX-01 --> 10 years
NCC-1701 (Pre-Refit) --> 25 years
NCC-1701 (Post-Refit) --> 12 years
NCC-1701-A --> 7 years
NCC-1701-B --> Unknown, but speculated to be around 40 years
NCC-1701-C --> Unknown, but speculated to be less than 10 years
NCC-1701-D --> 8 years
NCC-1701-E --> Unknown, but 9 to 30 years

Therefore, I'd argue that the Enterprise-B is the only Enterprise to truly break 30 years, and non-canonically at that. The original Enterprise having such a major refit in TMP is like cheating. So having the Enterprise-E in PIC would be the thing that's unusual, instead of the other way around.

I don't understand how anyone is surprised about how quickly starfleet churns through Enterprises given that they are often 'the only ship within range' whenever the quadrant ending, federation obiliterating, shit hits the fan.

Does it? One is a literary quote and the other is not (as far as I'm aware), which I'd think was a fundamental distinction. Nor are grandiose villain lines remotely unique to Khan. Hell, given that he steals a couple from Ahab and is obsessed with his target resulting in his own downfall, I suppose we should dismiss him as an Ahab ripoff from now on.
Noting that the new villain is a copy of a copy doesn't make her more impressive.

At least we've got Khan ripoff and 'memberberries out of the way - now we just need someone to be called a Mary Sue to complete the trifecta of the usual lazy kneejerk criticism.
And add the usual defensive kneejerk apologism of lazy writing.

Great trailer! It does what a good trailer should do: it teases characters and plot points and raises my excitement.

My impression from the trailer is that the villain starts hunting the TNG characters to draw Picard out. She goes after Crusher. Picard gets the gang back together (Riker, Tori, Worf and Geordie) to go rescue Crusher. They go in the new Titan. They get ambushed by the villain. And then later we get the Ent-F. Not sure how Lore and Moriarty fit in.

To those complaining that we are getting yet another villain out for revenge trope: as long as the story is good, I don't think it matters. Yes, we've gotten some bad takes like Nemesis but we've also gotten some great takes like Wrath of Khan. And the fact is that the villain out for revenge can be a very compelling trope when it is done right. From the trailer, I am optimistic that it will be done well in Picard. It looks like Amanda Plummer really chews the scenery well, which always makes the villain more fun to watch. We get some great battle scenes too. I hope the villain's motivations are strong and her connection to Picard is good because that is important. The villain out for revenge trope works best IMO when the villain has a strong motivation for what they are doing and a strong connection to the main characters.

We are also getting Moriarty and Lore back. So it seems this final season will tie in to TNG. That's good. And we get the TNG main characters back together. That's wonderful. I hope we get a satisfactory conclusion to TNG.

Overall, I think this final season has the potential to be really great. Can't wait.

I’m so optimistic!!

I think Moriarty is the really the "Khan Level" main villain.

With the mis-direction trailers can give - What if that isn't Lore, but really, somehow, Data from Nemesis. But now updated to Juliana Soong aging tech.

Lore is up to no good as he hunts down Picard and company. Amanda Plummer's character is his holographic camouflage. They seek to liberate Moriarty from cold storage to wreak havoc on humanity. They fail because...family!

Cameo appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch as the fiddler in the restaurant. Internet meltdown brought to you by Paramount + .

It always seemed crazy that no one (Bruce Maddox?) ever thought to have a go uploading Data’s brain into Lore. B-4 couldn’t handle it, but Lore was functionally identical to Data.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what this is - an experiment on Lore that lead to a schizophrenic Android with competing personalities, like Gollum/Smeagol.

If Vadic truly is hunting down people close to Picard, that won't limit it to only the main TNG crew. We could still get people like Ro, Barclay, Guinan (again), O'Brien, Elnor (maybe she kills him and that's why Raffi is so mad in the trailer), Laris, Vash...

My current guess is that she's also tracking down some old TNG villains who hold serious grudges to help her, and that's where Lore and Moriarty come into play. If that's the case, we'll likely get some others too. I'm still hoping for Sela.

I'm not sure how Moriarty could come into the real world though, but maybe something like The Doctor's mobile-emitter come into play.

With Worf reportedly on a track related to the Dominion War, and since he's a pacifist now...maybe he's dealing with some kind of PTSD from the war, or helping people who have it? He seems to be "coaching" a younger human (I think that's Thomas Dekker?) to control his anger.

If Thomas Dekker is playing Picard's son I'm not sure how he'd fit into the above scenario, but having him as Jean-Luc's son would be a good tie-in to the Nexus-fueled vision of Picard's family. And if he's Picard's son, that would be a good reason for Vadic to be coming after him.

Moriarty, Lore and the Enterprise-F. This could be either amazing or a complete tire fire.

I can't wait!

This looks GREAT.

Makes you wonder who found Moriarty's portable computer that kept his program going, or if they can now convert "holodeck matter" into real matter... there's a potentially really sweet plot potential in all this. And far better for a nemesis than Shinzon (as far as scripting went, the acting was phenomenal)...

Lore's great to bring back as well; he came back in TNG with arguably less explanation too... His seasons 4 and 7 presences were a bit limp but, dang, season 1 was the saving grace and it's way too see to see more of his sadistic side. Brent Mintz* is a fantastic actor...

Am hoping it's not another "EARTH AND THE WHOLE GALAXY ARE IN DAAAAAAAAAAAANGER!!!!!!!!!!!" routine as that's been done way too many times and in way too many franchises at this point.

Hell, what's teased looks so great** that I'll try harder to swallow faff like "tech" and other devolved words from the language. It's not always easy to do as sci-fi was clearly very accessible to audiences of all ages in the late 80s and 90s thanks to obscure shows like "Star Trek - The Next Generation" and they didn't need words to be reduced to their first syllables only... which then begs other questions, but that's neither here nor there for now...

Wasn't there some guy, Robert Meyer Burnett, who worked on TNG blu-ray releases and other things, apparently disliked seasons 1 and 2 of "Picard", but was on Twitter and other venues saying he was genuinely excited for season 3? Definitely a fascinating twist and it's easier to see why now.

* his original stage name, which sounds not too dissimilar to "Breath mints", which in it of itself is somewhat amusing.

** not sarcasm

(sorry folks, that's not Mike Nesmith either...)

Riker's reaction to Worf's confession of now being a pacifist is hilarious.

I spit out my drink. Both seem oddly in-character. Especially Riker, but it's an interesting twist that Worf - and I can think of a few reasons for it to work and make sense - now be so pacifistic.
