NYCC Season 3 Trailer

Moriarty, Lore and the Enterprise-F. This could be either amazing or a complete tire fire.

I can't wait!

It's going to be incredible... The writers are finally figuring things out with SNW and bringing back TNG's cast and characters... And of course it's the final season for Picard. That's the sad part.

The new villain's blatant Khan-ness seems disappointingly uninspired.

Geordi finds Lore in what appears to be a cell, so I'm getting the vibe that they might be giving him a redemption arc.

Hot-off-the-press guesses:
  • Elnor dies offscreen. Elnor's fans, including myself, are justifiably irritated. It's in service to Raffi, who is bursting with anger here.
  • Laris dies, but at least we get to see it.
  • Lore gets a redemption arc, as The Older Mixer says. He showed up to claim vengeance for Data's 'second death', but ultimately, he gets it, and he elects to carry on in Data's honor. Soji shows up for one scene as part of the effort to stop Lore from walking down this dark path. Geordi only gets a sentence or two with Soji, which is kind of messed up, all things considered.
  • Vadek is outraged that the Federation, especially Picard, agreed to work with the new Borg. Maybe she's a Wolf 359 survivor or something.
  • Worf and Raffi meet up before either of them comes aboard. Ditto with Geordi and Lore. Both stories are told in the first couple of episodes (duh).
  • Beverly knows Picard has a secret son and is finally forced to reveal it because they need to stop him from being hunted down. Half the audience groans; the other half argues it makes sense, and the first half just wants to dunk on Kurtzman-era Star Trek. The argument continues until the heat death of the universe.
  • Vadek enlists Moriarty, but in a brief twist, we get Denise Crosby as another hologram, haunting Picard with a 'here's what Tasha Yar might have looked like today if you hadn't gotten her killed', which we all know isn't really fair, but Vadek's deranged, so it's fine.
  • Everyone's surprised when Mica Burton plays one of Geordi's daught - wait, they revealed that already.
  • Julian Bashir pops up at some point as part of Beverly's organization. He exposition-dumps how important that organization is, and offers to help find her, but only gets to type some stuff behind a computer to assist in tracing her whereabouts and doesn't show up again.
  • Admiral Archer gets name-dropped entirely offhandedly.
  • A famous real-world song plays at a climactic, albeit sobering, point. Later, we learn the song was chosen by Patrick Stewart himself, and it's very important to him, and everybody was impressed with how well it worked. Meanwhile, a subset of fans uses this as evidence that Stewart's creative input is never a good thing.
  • Seven and Raffi don't actually get much screen time together, to the frustration of fans of earlier seasons' original cast. There just isn't enough time for it. We do, however, get a long-distance Skype call between Seven and Janeway in a surprise Mulgrew cameo. Janeway name-drops a Commander Harry Kim. The fans are dissatisfied because he should be a captain by now. Garrett Wang jokes about it at conventions for the next decade.
  • Seven is promoted to captain at the end of the season. Geordi's Starfleet daughter remains aboard as crew. There's an implication involved that they'll maybe all get a show, this new crew. Whether it happens is anybody's guess.

Straight off the bat, I loved that trailer. Holy shit, I can't wait!

The new villain's blatant Khan-ness seems disappointingly uninspired.

Yeah, I'm worried it'll be another shouty, big ship-flying, "fire everything" Khan/Shinzon rip off.

Hopefully the trailer is a bit of a red herring...

Geordi finds Lore in what appears to be a cell, so I'm getting the vibe that they might be giving him a redemption arc.

Did it look like Lore and Moriarty were in the same facility? I'm thinking Lower Decks-style Daystrom annexe for insane computers. Maybe Geordi enlists a think tank of crazies?
