NYCC Season 3 Trailer

"I'll peck, and I'll jab, at everything that makes you, you. We will scorch the earth under which he stands and the night will brighten with the ashes of the Federation."

That has "from hell's heart I stab at thee" written all over it.

Does it? One is a literary quote and the other is not (as far as I'm aware), which I'd think was a fundamental distinction. Nor are grandiose villain lines remotely unique to Khan. Hell, given that he steals a couple from Ahab and is obsessed with his target resulting in his own downfall, I suppose we should dismiss him as an Ahab ripoff from now on.

At least we've got Khan ripoff and 'memberberries out of the way - now we just need someone to be called a Mary Sue to complete the trifecta of the usual lazy kneejerk criticism.

The NX-01 lasted 10 years.
The NCC-1701 for 40.
The A was decomissioned after 7 years as an Enterprise but was likely an older Constitution-class starship renamed.
The B's service length has never been stated in canon but a popular non-canon date has her serving 36 years, being lost in 2329.
The C was similar with her launch date unknown in canon but destroyed in 2344, but likely wasn't very old at all.
And the D was 8 years old when she was destroyed.

Ships with that name rarely make it to the starship equivalent of old age.
With the NCC-1701, I think it's a special case. In TMP, Decker says, "This is an almost totally new Enterprise." If you look at the ship in TMP compared to the look in either TOS or SNW (your choice), I believe it. Any way you slice it, the Enterprise in TMP is a new ship for all intents and purposes. And Morrow in TSFS has no idea what the Hell he's talking about.

So it's really more like this:

NX-01 --> 10 years
NCC-1701 (Pre-Refit) --> 25 years
NCC-1701 (Post-Refit) --> 12 years
NCC-1701-A --> 7 years
NCC-1701-B --> Unknown, but speculated to be around 40 years
NCC-1701-C --> Unknown, but speculated to be less than 10 years
NCC-1701-D --> 8 years
NCC-1701-E --> Unknown, but 9 to 30 years

Therefore, I'd argue that the Enterprise-B is the only Enterprise to truly break 30 years, and non-canonically at that. The original Enterprise having such a major refit in TMP is like cheating. So having the Enterprise-E in PIC would be the thing that's unusual, instead of the other way around.

Here's one of the best views of the Enterprise-F.

It's the only one we got :D

TUVOK: Curious. I have never understood the human compulsion to emotionally bond with inanimate objects. This vessel has done nothing. It is an assemblage of bulkheads, conduits, tritanium. Nothing more.
JANEWAY: Oh, you're wrong. It's much more than that. This ship has been our home. It's kept us together. It's been part of our family. As illogical as this might sound, I feel as close to Voyager as I do to any other member of my crew. It's carried us, Tuvok. Even nurtured us. And right now it needs one of us.
Great reference, gotta remember that ;)

Yes, he should be. Instead, he is lionized as the greatest Trek villain ever and Trek goes out of it's way to repeat it whenever possible.

But, yea, the new villain reminded me of Khan, and some other Trek villains. Hopefully the story is more original than the trailer, since trailers are rarely accurate.

Trailer looks good. I'm not going to get too excited though, the season will have to prove itself to me. Cool to see Thomas Dekker in Trek again though.

I noticed him too in the trailer. The rumor of Picard's son showing up would be interesting if it happens and Thomas Dekker was cast as him. In Generations he played his Nexus kid. Now that's a deep cut if they go there.

Honestly, there wasn't much here that really excited me, other than seeing Michael Dorn as Worf again. I mean, I'm still enthused to see it, it just didn't add that much additional enthusiasm, if you know what I mean.

Vadic so far just seems like a hybrid of the "greatest hits" of Trek villany. A little bit of Khan, a little bit of Chang, and the ship of Nero. I'll have to understand her motivation more to be drawn into this.

Worf and EF were the highlights of the trailer for me.

Good observation on the villain being a greatest hits. I like that we don't know what the driving force is yet though - too many trailers give away the film/show ahead of time

Picard has the crazy stalker to end all crazy stalkers, Worf's a pacifist, Beverly's frozen, there's a new Enterprise, Moriarty's back and then Lore is back too.

It's like someone gave a teenager cocaine and told them to write a TNG fanfic.

And was subsequently edited by someone who was microdosing ket for the visuals.

Ok, Moriarty and Lore were two things I did not see coming.

I'm really ok with the Odyssey class. I live the design, it's all good. What surprises me more is, I'm really beginning to love the new TItan. Seeing it in motion/action more makes me really dig the design.

And seeing the old crew..... yeah, that was a ride. I'm not sure yet if all of this is overkill or not, but I'm excited and curious.

Also, I don't care what your opinions are about the Odyssey and Luna class designs....

Two different fans designed these for two different competitions and won. One for the novels, one for a game. There are a lot more Trek fans that don't read the books or play STO than those that do. And now, both designs are part of of Star Trek television.
HOW FRIGGIN AWESOME IS THAT FOR THOSE FANS?!?!?! :D:D:D:D:D:D

I've said it before, but:
The TNG crew does NOT lend themselves to do schlocky action stuff. It was already awkward in the TNG movies. Now that everyone is 70 years on average it feels really, really sad for them to do all the screaming/shooting/running/fighting stuff, when the filmmakers clearly have to cut around to not show them even walking at old-people speed.

Counterpoint: obviously they'll show the action in the trailer.

Perhaps most of the ten episodes are Picard sipping tea and chairing meetings?

WTF??? Are we in the Mirror Universe? Turn up the goddamn lights inside! This isn't radio!

There. I said it.

"Who wrote them into this, too?" Wrote. As in, holonovel? Ten episodes inside a holodeck???

Is he wearing an apron?

Hello old girl! Did Agnes stop off for a quick one before Borgifying?
