nods to previous treks *spoilers*

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

I am waiting for the beagle to rematerialized in the next film.
that already happens in the final scene of the novellization of the movie.

I actually watched the credits because I thought that might be a quick post-credits scene! Although I'm bummed my prediction was wrong, I love the fact that it's the last line in the novel! Great minds I guess. ;)

Personally I thought the eel used on Pike looked more like the parasites from the TNG-episode 'Conspiracy' than the Ceti eels.

Not many TNG refs, as far as I can tell.

I took the scene with Titan as a TNG reference to Titan's Turn (Chain of Command). It was nice and subtle. Also, maybe this was just an inference, but Spock being there might have been a reference to Unification.

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

Who wants to think that TNG and DS9 were discarded, but Enterprise wasn't?

Exactly what happened though. You can also add TOS and Voyager to the mix. Enterprise and JJ-Trek are all that remain.

Enterprise was the biggest single reason a reboot was necessary, and it doesn't get rebooted? I don't buy it. Makes no sense.

The reference to Archer only proves that it's a different continuity. The Archer you're thinking of would have kicked the bucket when Scotty was in diapers.

The tribble is in a cage over scotty's shoulder when they first meet him, also I kind of like to think kirk hitting his head going onto the shuttle is a nod to star trek V where scotty hit his head, but I know that's reading too much into it i'm sure.

Did anybody see the TRIBBLE, I was watchin' for it but missed it...?

I've said this before, but I believe that the design of the Starbase near earth, is a Really Huge Nod to Franz Joseph's 1975 STM.

The Tribble was behind Scotty in a cage in a few shots when he is sitting in his chair in the Delta Vega-outpost.

I loved McCoy's 'Where is Chapel!?'.

Ahhhh...thanks... I'll be more observant next viewing...

I was wondering where Scotty got the RockyWok (say it fast a few times in a row and you'll get it ) at that point and missed it.

And I missed the Chapel comment too... wow...

I loved all the nods to previous Trek...it seemed the early films were well represented. I liked how Admiral Pike's uniform was really reminiscent of the Admiral's uniform from TMP.

I'm sure THAT WAS intentional...
(it was Waay Too Obvious, not to be)

I enjoyed the red shirt with the explosives being an idiot.

I'll bet that's the last time Kirk lets a Redshirt carry the explosive's...

:rommie:

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

The constant references to "the original universe" and its shows/movies really proved to me that this movie was a labor of love and not simply a mullah-machine. :) They could have just as easily left it all out and nobody would really notice (e.g. Pike and the wheelchair).....at least nobody that wouldn't complain anyway.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU'VE NOT SEEN THE FILM

Anyone else note that Scotty tested his transwarp transporter on 'Admiral Archer's Beagle'.

A not-so-subtle nod (and dig, perchaps?) to the unlamented prequel show?
Oh my god! I missed that! That's fantastic. I gotta go watch it again to catch little stuff like this.

Agreed, but I also found it kind of odd, like, they were making a huge step to say: "Hey this is a new timeline." yet they also included a LOT of stuff to indicate that this was at least very similar to the old timeline. I really enjoyed the Kobyashi Maru plot, as Khan is, and always shall be, my friend.

If I'm not mistaken, in the mirror universe episode of Enterprise, the computer screen indicates that Archer (who attains the rank of Admiral) died the day after he witnessed the launch of the NCC-1701, so its perfectly reasonable to assume that this is the same Archer that Scotty metions. I doubt, however, that the beagle is Porthos. Probably another beagle that Archer got after Porthos.

I thought that the Centauri creature looked JUST like the Ceti Eels. There are any number of possible explanations for the name change.
