nods to previous treks *spoilers*

Re: References to all the spinoffs (spoilers)

Klingon Warbirds: reference to Enterprise, the Vulcan Ambassador calls them Warbirds in Broken Bow.

Which Brannon Braga himself called a mistake and apologized to the fans for it even before the episode aired.

Re: References to all the spinoffs (spoilers)

^ But still was in the new film. Anything on screen is canon (even if it was a mistake).

One of the screens in Engineering had a section 'B 4' and there were at least two references to the number 47. 47 Klingon ships were destroyed and one of the signs in the shipyards said 'section 47'

Nods to TOS

How many nods did peopel notice that paid tribute to what has went before, like kirk eating an apple in Kobayashi Maru i thought that was a nod to the wrath of khan

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Spock saying, "...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, must be the truth" was a direct lift from what Spock said in Star Trek VI. It shows that was part of his philosophy for a while...I liked that.

Kirk said the word "the" many times. William Shatner used to say "the" a lot. So did Patrick Strewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scot Bakula. Great nod to all the series.

Thought the same exact thing when I saw that scene.

"I HATE to lose."

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU'VE NOT SEEN THE FILM

Anyone else note that Scotty tested his transwarp transporter on 'Admiral Archer's Beagle'.

A not-so-subtle nod (and dig, perchaps?) to the unlamented prequel show?

You know, I'm probably the only person who thought that was a homage to the original Vincent Price version of THE FLY, when the scientist accidentally beamed his pet cat into another dimension . . . .

Well, that's what went through my head. Really!

Was I the only one picking up on a TVH vibe when Spock tells Scotty about the transporting thingy that Scotty "discovers" how to do?

"Well, how do YOU know he's not the guy who invents it!"

Re: Anyone else pick up the nod to 'Enterprise' (the show)?

I think it's more logical to assume that they just didn't know or didn't want us to think about it (which goes for a few things in the film)... :klingon:
Really, I don't get what's the problem here. Why does it really have to be the Archer we know to be a reference to Enterprise?

Agreed. I do think it was a nice little homage to the fans of Enterprise.

Yeah, caught the Cardassian reference. Also, Pike in a wheelchair could be construded as a nod to TOS.

Wheelchair Pike made me laugh, glad that he can still speak and isn't just a complex blinker.

I really liked Captain Pike! He was totally awesome!

The cardassian thing, Maybe the Kelvin was exploring in one direction and when it went kabloowey by an unstoppable enemy starfleet changed directions and discovered Cardassia 100 years earlier and they are on peaceful terms! Maybe in the Next film we will see a Cardassian in Starfleet!!!!

Maybe 100 years ago Cardassia was kinda like the Federation, then they got some fascists in power and it went belly up leading them to be asses and invading Bajor, by Starfleet making contact early they help them through a crisis and Cardassia and Earth make peace and friendship and all is well!! I can dream!

Interesting Enterprise refrence

Scotty said that he had beamed Adm. Archer's pet beagle and that it hasn't shown up

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

Yeah. That would make Archer, like, 150.

I know I'm a ST nerd for saying this, but wouldn't T'Pol have been one of the wise Vulcan people standing around singing Kumbaya in that cave? It would have been a good plug, cheaply done, and would have been a nice nod.

cloned dog
new dog inherited its name
stuffed dog
really really old dog
genetically enhanced dog

pick one

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

they tried too hard to bring ENT into this story. Archer would have been well on his way to 140 or more in this time and all that cloned dog, new dog whatever stuff negates the fact that no human could live to 140+

The name "Porthos" was never mentioned. He just said, "Admiral Archer's Beagle." My dad has had four Yellow Labs. They were all prized at the time.

On occasion some of us live into the hundreds now, in a few hundred years would it be crazy to think we could live that long?

Re: Interesting Enterprise refrence

no one said it was THAT Archer, it was just a funny refrence I caught
