Yes, but if you anchor your entire team around one or two star players, as opposed to a more well-rounded approach of development and distribution, you're doomed to fail. Just look at the post-Manning Broncos. He wasn't gone a year after their SB50 win back in the 2015-2016 season and, while they started off fairly strong, they gradually fell apart due to some pretty bad injuries and really never recovered. The coaching staff was unable to adequately compensate for Manning's departure and rewrite their playbook to make things happen.
I'm starting to see history repeat itself with the Chiefs now. You can't keep running the quarterback when the other players aren't pulling their weight. The defense was doing fairly well, blocking a number of critical passes, but the offense folded a little too quickly, forcing Mahomes into a bunch Fran Tarkenton-like panic-scrambles. He performed well, but should never be put in that position consistently. His receivers missed a LOT of big passes, dropping them or bouncing them off their fingers when they should have had them. If things keep going the way they are, Mahomes will likely go the way of Mike Vick or RGIII. Running QB's have a horribly short shelf life and burn out way too fast from career-ending injuries. That would be a needless tragedy for such an insanely talented player.
