New Watchmen trailer

I thought Rorshach's voice sounded perfect. It's exactly the type of voice I imagined while reading the comic.

Jon's voice I expected to be deeper and more ominous though.

The ironic thing is that, to me, I expected Rorshach's voice to actually be vaguely high-pitched and whiney, an exaggerated version of what Doctor Manhattan sounds like, whilst I expected Doctor Manhattan to sound incredibly deep.

That was my expectation, too.

I hope that the action-pause-action style isn't something that's actually in the movie, but only in the trailer. That style is too music video-ish.

Everything Zack Snyder has directed has looked like a music video, I expect WATCHMEN will look the same. There will be plenty of slo-mo for all.
Dawn of the Dead was hardly a music video. I expect the Slow-mo will be used mostly to emphasize certain shots that echo panels of the comic. . . as it should be.

Personally, I suspect every slo-mo shot in the film has been used in the trailers.

I always expected something more for Dr. Manhattan's voice, too...which is only natural considering that he was given different-looking word balloons, which I've always taken to indicate that a character doesn't sound quite "normal". They should have put some reverb on the actor's voice or something....

I heard Manhattan's voice in my head as a man's voice warped in the same way that the voices of the alien species on the final planet in Knights of the Old Republic are warped. Do you call that an electronic sound, or something else? I've been struggling to find the right word for this, and I would appreciate any help I can get.

That's kinda the same way I imagined it. The way I described it was a slight echo. I don't know if that's technically accurate, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one the imagined it that way.

On second thought, maybe not quite James Earl Jones but more like normal human but with some reverb (kinda like the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from Aqua Teen Hunger Force).

That Smashing Pumpkins music makes me want to puke. I just wonder where did they dug up those guys. I hope it's only trailer music.

It's been in my car for the past 11.5 years.

I purchased the soundtrack CD when Batman & Robin came out.

Let's just say that the song was so unmemorable that when the Smashing Pumpkins first retired in 2000 at their final concert in Seoul, South Korea, it was not one of the songs that they played.

Yeah. In my mind, I always imagined a kind of ethereal, echoing quality, as if he were speaking into an oil drum.

Sweet. Sweet. Sweet. Sweet. I finally read the graphic novel last summer while recovering from my first foot surgery and fell in love it and was blown away by the first trailer. I don't like the music either but hopefully its just trailer music and not a sample of the score. Seriously though...Watchmen is going to kick off another stellar blockbuster year in 09! If Zack Snyder manages to pull this off (and it looks like he will from the trailers and what Kevin Smith said about his viewing) he is going to be god in fanboys eyes. It's even got the thumbs up from Alan Gibbons right? Too bad Alan Moore wants nothing to do with hollywood...I can't wait to see the following scenes:

-Creation of Dr. Manhatten
-the Mars Scene
-capture and torture of Rorschach
-Nite Owl and Silk Spectre

I'm also interested in seeing how Zach manages to adapt the Pirate comic book sub-plot which I took as a side commentary.

Perhaps I'm alone in this, but I always imagined Manhattan's voice to be a nondescript American accent with a "normal" sounding pitch. Part of what I found interesting about him is how human he seams, despite his power and appearance. I always thought there was something paradoxically unassuming about him. Besides, a being of that power really doesn't need a deep intimidating voice. Rorschach on the other hand would of course put on a deep scary voice because (among other reasons) he's over compensating for what he sees as his own shortcomings, if you'll pardon the pun.

I always heard a William Hurt sort of voice in my head, which I think is sort of what you describe. Just a very normal/usual sounding sort of voice...coming from the 100-foot tall nude blue guy.

Somehow, I doubt they'll be able to fit that into the film at all. That's probably par for the course. I'll be bummed out that they weren't able to fit in more excerpts from Under the Hood.

I think I read that on the DVD "under the hood" is going to be a mini-documentary; either a standard "making of" for the film or a recap of some of the background material, I'm not certain. Maybe both. "The Black Freighter" on the other hand with defiantly be on the extended DVD as a series of animated segments edited into the film.

As for Alan Moore not wanting anything to do with it, I can't say I blame him, based on what's been done to some of his other works. One the other hand I can't be too sympathetic to the bloke since in 'V for Vendetta' he turned my home into a death camp. Git.

If you were living where in do, you'd be happy. I mean, I live in Redneckville! I want those fuckers to die, painfully.
