Seriously? There’s enough of a weird disconnect and fan outcry when Trek uses the word “fuck”. The word “cunt” as an insult is generally considered as offensive and misogynistic a term as you get. Here in the UK it’s virtually banned on television unless it’s late at night and used only in the most sparing fashion.
Let’s keep the tone close to SG1 and SGA. SGU tried desperately to be edgy and it fell completely flat on its face.
i would prefer stargate not have an edgy, grim, sex, gore and cursing period...
although sg1 did have a little nudity in the first episode or two, do to originally being on a movie channnel, and i am not opposed to such content in general. it just, not the vibe....

For all of O'Neill's witty putdowns of the Goa'uld, nothing would top the sort of insults a Cockney could come up with. Or for that matter, the average British teenager.
Really like they made the announcement with the leaders of fandom, shows they actually care. Hopefully won't listen to fans much, if at all. Fans don't know what they want.
The problem with modern shows is the lack of episodes to really make a connection. Sure you can do a lot with 13 episodes (see Firefly), but not when you're being compared with 350 episodes.
I think Stargate is one of those rare franchises which could be rebooted and benefit -- the whole premise of modern humanity is suddenly thrust into the wider universe with nothing more than a P90 and a witty comeback.
In my view SG1 changed somewhat when they got Prometheus. Not in a bad way, but the Stargate universe in the post Goa'uld universe is very different to that of season 1. A reboot however would would never recapture the first time, it would always be compared, and in a more brutal way than say TNG was to TOS thanks to the internet.
If you had enough you could do something different based on the rough premise -- the BSG route, but in my opinion modern TV production realities would never allow it to generate enough (20+ episodes a year for a couple of years) to outshine its earlier brethren, so I think a continuation is the best move.
I like the idea of a public program, perhaps opening with an attack on Earth, a very public defence, and then a revelation of the existence of the stargate program to the world, then going from there, would set it aside from earlier entries and allow it to be its own thing while retaining something new. You could even open that as a "10 years ago" or even "20 years ago" documentary style (when it airs it will have been about 20 years since "Air", which was the last time we *know* the gate was still secret), and thus moving onto a new generation who have dealt with the knowledge since being in school. Hell make the revelation happen in 2010 with the Aschen, and while it appeared to be successful and all went quiet, now in 2030 something else is cropping up and it's time for the next generation to handle it.

In the UPN TV series "Seven Days", the Russians were trying to get the sphere had their own Crononaut, once they found out about the program and their program failed (this is mostly from memory, a tad from looking it up really fast).
So, imagine in the Stargate world the real world knew about the secret and that America had the gate and nobody else (been a long time since I saw the show, maybe another country found one and I just don't recall now!), what that would do to relations with other countries. Imagine other countries using spies to get in, assassinate, etc. In order for the whole world to knows angle to work, the series would have to avoid the constant threat of real world consequences.
In the failed "Greatest American Hero" revival pilot, "Greatest American Heroine", the aliens force Ralph to step down after he's revealed to be the hero and the whole world knows about it, forcing a new her to be chosen.

They could definitely use a General as a character and Sam would be a great option, even if she doesn't appear as often as Hammond.
IDK how you feel about physical media, but the remastered blu-rays are of excellent quality. A big step up from the DVDs and all 3 series' are in one big set from VEI.
