New Picard SDCC Trailer

Am I the only one that thinks that the banner is nothing more than a holodeck projection? And that this is the same scene where Picard meets Data (another hologram) for a game of poker? I mean, that does seem like the most logical conclusion based on the evidence we have so far... right?
It looked kind of blury like maybe Borg vision. Maybe girl connected to a Picard memory because of Locutus implant. Plus one character might have been a kid ox the Enterprise. Maybe the one who is a drunk thus a childhood memory through though the haze of alcohol. Jason

Even though I'm Team Disco, after today I think Team Picard would make good allies. Some of us might disagree about Discovery but I think if we can just accept where we stand "is what it is" and look passed it, we can work together pretty well in regards to Picard and in general. I can see this happening.

How about it?

"look past."

Unless you work for CBS, Bad Robot or Secret Hideout, my speculation is as good as your speculation. Stop telling people they're straight out wrong, because you have no more idea than any of the rest of us. Plus, it's killing the fun vibe.

That's absolutely not true. All ideas are not created equal.

I could just as easily speculate that Picard is going to be revealed as a sentient wheel of cheese that has taken on human form, but that doesn't make that speculation "good."

I don't need behind the scenes info to recognize a bad idea. Your suggestion that they are going to pull story points from "Timeless" or "Dark Frontier" is not good.

Sorry for taking the fun out of it.

In the same shot as the banner you can see some of the awards that were on show at the Picard museum display, so it’s more likely to be Picard that has the banner.

It seems out of character for Picard to keep the "Captain Picard Day" banner. But, yeah, I saw it in the museum, too.

And maybe that's the point - maybe there's a literal Picard museum in the show itself. Or a room at HQ or something dedicated to him. That's my guess for now, anyway.

Sure.

But when Picard is awesome, I should at least be allowed to use so,e kind of meaningful stare at everyone who pooh poohed that we should have a proper follow on Trek.

I have already been working on it a little when people have complained about DSC feeling a little boxed in by continuity that already exists, and after it did it’s bid for freedom from the timeline with its Buck Rogers thang.

But yeah.
*stare*

I have to wonder if Tim Russ and the group behind Star Trek: Renegades (which was supposedly pitched years ago when they crowdfunded it), will raise any issues legally as the set up for this show is a lot like what they did. (Hell, Patrick Stewart says: They're not Starfleet...think of them as renegades.")

Not legally, but there are...similarities. Thy will just see if there’s a guest spot for him and Wang down the line.

In this video, they says it's 2399, I believe.

Also, the description next to Picard's farm outfit at the art gallery said it was 2399, and Picard says at the start that's been 20 years since Nemesis, which was 2379.

While I take this point, we also know there have been rethinks/reshoots along the way, and that aspects of what has been revealed so far have been somewhat in contrast with Stewart's "very rigid rules". At this stage, 4 of the 7 TNG main cast have been confirmed, alongside one former guest actor who appeared three times on TNG as a very prominant (and, like 7, potentially plot important, given what we know) character, and one cast member from Star Trek: Voyager. Whatever Stewart's original demands, it appears there have been some compromises along the way. ;)

I'm not suggesting I want fan service, or even if fan service is a particularly good thing. But at this stage, given what has been revealed so far, I honestly don't think we can rule anything out... :D

But Stewart's comments are from an interview that was conducted two days ago. Not at the beginning of the season.

So he was talking about the things he wanted and how they came to fruition. Sure, things undoubtedly evolved along the way, but Stewart was involved and working closely with the writers the whole time. The point his commentary was not to say, "Here's what I asked for and whoopsee, it didn't happen!", but rather to describe how his thoughts informed and shaped the final product.

Stewart never said he didn't want to see anyone else from TNG, just that he didn't want a "full crew reunion" or for the show to just be the ENT-D crew tooling around in space going on missions like they did before.

I think it's still safe to rule out what they literally just said a couple days ago - Don't expect Picard in a Starfleet uniform (flashbacks don't count), sitting in the Enterprise command chair, surrounded by Riker, Crusher, Troi, Worf, etc.

Can't discern too much from the trailer but honestly a lot of red flags. This just looks frankly like more Kurtzman/bad robot crap, dark tone and cinematography, mystery boxes, S31, heavy "tomb raiding" nostalgia, action, action, action, "the fate of the entire galaxy, she's the destroyer!!!" Over the top stakes. This looks like more Discovery honestly than anything to do with TNG.

I wish I was exciterd, but it's everything I would expect from Kurtzman. The fact I watch this trailer and think "meh looks kinda bad" is not a good sign, I LOVE the TNG crew and Picard is a real role model for me and this is doing nothing.

We could just look on it as following the tone of the movies, which were darker etc...eventually heading back into the more light of TNG. atm it lands roughly DS9 by the looks of it, or late voyager. And that’s ok.

The more of these interviews I've watched with Patrick Stewart the more nervous I get about the show. I'm one of these people who agree that Star Trek has ALWAYS at times used current world social issues in the show... The difference is I think the original series used it more to show "We're flawed *RIGHT NOW*, but there's hope that in the future we solve these issues and become a much better species and then try to bring that to the rest of the universe"

Where as over time it seems like the subsequent Trek series have been more about showing that even though it is the future humanity is still extremely flawed and prone to the same issues and problems that are facing society today. It's a pretty 'shifted difference' from what Trek originally tried to present in the future to what we're now seeing. I think there's a pretty decent chance we're going to see a fullscale implosion with what Discovery shows the 'future' beyond TNG is for Earth and the Federation and this show now is showing a 'darker/grittier' take past TNG as well.

I wonder if ships in the ST:P era will be equipped with Quantum Slipstream drive, or whether that'll be entirely brushed under the carpet (or perhaps still under research by Starfleet R&D).
Why use that when Discovery has instantaneous travel?

Also, I want transwarp beaming to be the norm. Teleport Picard from Earth to Vulcan and then hop on a ship to the ex-Borg prison cube.

Let's clear somethings up.

- When we pitched to CBS back in 2015 (wow, has it been that long). CBS loved the idea of having a Renegades crew as a series idea. However at the time, Viacom was making Star Trek: Beyond and CBS had a contract with Viacom (Paramount) not to put out any Star Trek shows until the 3 movie deal between Viacom and Bad Robot was complete. They were also planing on taking other pitches leading up to the contract expiration. This was before they pulled Kurtzman and (at the time) Fuller in for Discovery.

- There are no legal issues to be raised, as CBS and Viacom (movie side) own ALL rights to Star Trek.

- This was not the first time our ideas were mimicked, In Star Trek: Of Gods and Men (that we released in in late 2007) we blew up Vulcan. and in Star Trek 2009, JJ blew up Vulcan also. LOL

Imitation is the best form of flattery. :)

Traditionally, TV shows were filmed and completed a few weeks before airing. In the age of binge-streaming, that's no longer the case but by and large filming is done in "chronological" order of intended broadcast. I doubt there would be much done in reshoots, if any, for this show.
There's always a pick up shot or reaction shot or two here and there. NOTHING major. With pre-vis nothing much is left to chance. Some directors might get everything done during their block, but it's during the editing where the need might arise and they are quick and easy to do. Nothing like a rewrite situation.
