My journey in Deep Space

"Civil Defense"

"When an automated Cardassian self-defense programmed into the formerly Cardassian station is accidentally activated, not even Gul Dukat is certain he can save the crew which is trying to stop it."

Fun episode. Having Dukat get caught in his own trap was priceless.

I just LOVED the look of shock on his face when he got that little message!

"Defiant"

"Will Riker's clone Tom abducts Kira, steals the Defiant, and takes the ship into Cardassian territory on a Maquis mission to stop a Cardassian military buildup. Sisko is forced to work with Gul Dukat to stop him; both leaders are stunned to realize that Riker was right about the Obsidian Order massing a secret fleet."

Fun episode. Frakes was great and worth the price of admission. Good to see the Defiant in action one more time. The FX are really stepping up.

A very Dukat moment! Trying to extort the return of Terok Nor under duress. Enjoyable to see his deflation when he learns that he can't escape, leaving the crew to die.

"Fascination"

"Members of the crew are struck by irrepressible urges to forsake their lovers and pair up with unexpected partners during a Bajoran festival attended by Lwaxana Troi, whose Betazoid hormones prove to be the cause. Only Sisko manages to stay out of the embarrassment."

Too bad that didn't happen at any of my college parties.

"Past Tense, Part 1"

"A transporter accident sends Sisko, Bashir, and Dax into Earth's past several hundred years earlier, where they inadvertently contribute to the death of a man who put a stop to the horrific police-state mentality and the violence of the inner cities."

Classic Star Trek, time travel and saving the future. The fight scenes were great, I love seeing Sisko throw a punch.

"Past Tense, Part 2"

"Sisko must take on the identity of the hero from Earth's past and end a violent siege, while Kira and O'Brien try to find him and the rest of the crew trapped in time with him."

Sisko had some great moments as Bell. It seems like Webb did more of the work, I was thinking that the riots were going to be re-named after him instead.

"Life Support"

"When Bareil is seriously injured during transport to the station to negotiate a peace treaty for Cardassia, both Winn and Kira convince Bashir to keep him alive using methods which destroy much of Bareil's individuality. Ultimately, Bashir follow's the Vedek's wishes and lets him die."

Bareil was frustratingly stupid. I am amazed that they actually killed him off. I liked his character and had a feeling that he would somehow become Kai.

One thing I like in Life Support" was Bashir's condemnation of Kai Winn. Bashir so far seemed a naive but maturing/advancing character , simply said "You are a coward" directly to her face...And Winn said she will not forget what he said..

"Heart of Stone"

"When Kira is trapped in a growing crystal formation and her death seems imminent, Odo confesses his love for her. But he realizes that the situation is not what is seems, and ultimately learns that "Kira" is a female shapeshifter trying to figure out a means to lure him back to the Founders."

The 'A' story kept getting dumb and dumber. I really could not stand this episode the more in went along. I kept waiting for scenes with Nog and Sisko as they were the highlight of the episode. So far this season has had quite a few stinkers, when does DS9 get really good? I assume the start of season 4 through the end of the series was the shows prime.

As I recall, that's one of the last really weak episodes in season 3. The rest are a bit variable, but most of them are strong in one way or another.

"Destiny"

"Sisko undertakes a joint scientific venture with Cardassian scientists to place a communications relay on the far side of the wormhole, despite a frightening Bajoran prophecy which seems to be coming true piece by piece."

This episode really didn't do anything for me.

"Prophet Motive"

"The Grand Nagus abruptly rewrites the Rules of Acquisition and takes up altruism, inspiring Quark to investigate his leader's actions. He discovers that Zerk's meddling with the wormhole entities led to their meddling with him in turn."

I enjoyed this episode. I viewed it as more of a character piece instead of an episode that dealt with the problem of the week. I have grown to love the Grand Nagus. He is so winy and annoying and hilarious. I liked the scene with Bashir and Obrien playing darts, it reminded me of my friends and I.

What I can say about this episode is: I played darts at home, and in a bar a few times and with a drink and friends, it is fun. :)

I always liked this episode, mainly because of Tracy Scoggins as one of the Cardassian scientists, and the interplay between her and O'Brien.

I do enjoy storied built around the Bajoran prophesies and orb revelations.

Oh, man, I LOVED that! I loved how O'Brien was all springloaded to assume she was being racist, then found out she was being sexist. AND then got it in his head she hated his guts--only to find out she WANTED him!!! :cardie:

I do enjoy storied built around the Bajoran prophesies and orb revelations.

Me too. I'm glad I'm not the only one...I constantly read stuff like "I hate the Bajor stories" here, but I find them fascinating.

I love the Bajoran stories as well. They were usually very well written, and made for excellent social commentaries. Which is what Star Trek is all about, after all...

Me thinks trentman is going to be one of those DS9 fans who only likes the show post-Worf.

I'm a little odd though. I love the series from beginning to end, but the first three seasons are my favorite. I'm a bigger fan of the buildup to something big than I am of the thing usually being built up to. Which is probably why Season 2 is my favorite season of Babylon 5.

Deep Space Accounting

"The House of Quark"

the dead man's widow demands that he marry her according to custom, he finds himself at the head of a struggling family in dire need of his financial skills."

The really curious and useful thing about science fiction is what it can tell us about the real world. If accounting had been mandatory in all of our high schools for the last 30 or 40 years would we be having these problems now?

The next point is that double entry accounting is 700 YEARS OLD. Shouldn't it be EXTREMELY EASY with the cheap computing power we have now? The IBM 3033 mainframe that cost $3,000,000 in 1978 only had the processing power of a 300 MHz Pentium. Don't you suppose major corporations did accounting with it back then?

When was the last time you heard an economist say that accounting should be mandatory in high school?

Re: Deep Space Accounting

"Visionary"

"A temporal accident flings O'Brien into the near future, where he witnesses his own death and the destruction of the station. He is able to prevent the latter, but not the former, and must take his own place in the altered timeline."

Again another good character episode, this time for O'Brien.
