My journey in Deep Space

I saw it more as a way to get away from him before he died. She was just looking for some excuse to not have to deal with his death.

In the flashback, she did something similar with her natural father. Left him at his bed when she could have easily stayed.

At this point in the series I think she has grown quite a bit from the hostile Kira of first season who was still scarred by the Occupation.

Also, it is all well and good to talk about forgiving your enemies.

But in real life that must be hard. Just imagine Holocaust survivors forgiving Nazis after only five years after the end of WWII.

That was one of the things I liked about Worf in TNG. He almost seemed more human than his crewmates. Like the time he flat out refused to give the dying Romulan his compatible blood.

You say it's like forgiving Nazis--but remember, Ghemor did NOT accept traditional Cardassian ideology and had made that very evident. In fact, the actor that played Tekeny Ghemor says he was inspired by the old German officers that refused to obey the Nazis, who rebelled, and even tried to assassinate Hitler. In other words, guys that took about as strong an anti-Nazi stand as possible.

As to Ghemor's time on Bajor--something tells me that was the flashpoint...the very thing that turned him against Central Command. No doubt he lived with what he saw there for every last day of his life. No doubt it haunted him, drove him to atone through every action he took against the government.

He had already paid for his sins there--whatever they were, even if it was just presence--and that's why I find Kira's actions unconscionable. What she did was a form of revenge, not justice.

What she did was a form of revenge, not justice.
But it wasn't really out of revenge, it was out of fear of the death of another father figure. She was wrong to say the things she said to him, but she was only using those reasons as an excuse so she didn't have to be in that room and bear witness to his end. That is the reason she went on the raid in the flashback rather than staying by her father's bedside.

If avoidance was ALL she wanted, she could've "simply" stayed away. Which would've been wrong, but not quite as wrong as going off in his face like that. Given that...I conclude revenge against Cardassians was also a motive, whether or not she wanted to face that fact.

Yeah, I could see that.

She was a complicated, yet sexy, woman.

By the way, for a while there I thought trent might have given up on the show just as it was getting to some really cool stuff.

Looking forward to your reviews, sir. :bolian:

Ah, but Kira was a very strong woman who didn't like admit to having fears, she couldn't just admit to being scared about being in that room with him, she had to have another reason to escape. She was wrong to blow up in the guy's face, but I don't think it was based out of any lingering racism.

At least that is the way I have always perceived it. :)

Well, I hate to say it, but the fact that her rawest emotions would express themselves THAT way--that that's what comes out when the mental censors have been demolished--that says to me what's REALLY underneath. When you see how people react under pressure--that's when you see who they really are.

Sweet, some good discussion going I see.

"Ferengi Love Songs"

"Quark discovers that his mother is in love with the Grand Nagus, but is willing to sacrifice her happiness in order to regain status in Ferengi society."

A below average Ferengi episode, the only things that saves it from complete suck-a-tude is Jeffrey Combs.

"Soldiers of the Empire"

"On a mission to help Martok in the Klingon struggle with the Cardassian-Dominion Alliance, Worf realizes that his friend is no longer fit to lead, and that assassination is the only means of displacing him. Goaded on by Dax, he challenges Martok, whom he permits to defeat him. In gratitude, Martok invites Worf to join his house."

I remember seeing this episode awhile back and I somehow remembered it when I was watching it today. I enjoyed this episode. I like me some Klingon episodes a lot better than the Ferengi episodes. Although the whole episode was rather predictable it was good to see Martok finally get some action since hes supposedly been on the station for awhile now.

^ Great episode, and not just because we get to see a Klingon complement the Cardassians:cool:.
It's a fine and touching Worf/Martok/Jadzia episode and the Klingon battle song at the end was brilliant.
It's one of my favorite Klingon episodes really!

I liked that Klingon episode a lot too. That was the one that made me a fan of the character Martok and a real thrill after what I consider a rather lackluster run of episodes leading up to it. One of my favourite little details is how one of the Klingons on the ship kept calling Jadzia "Trill" mockingly...i.e. "Go home and take your Trill". It was almost like a racial slur, pretty hilarious. Jadzia's comeback about the guy's bed being empty was funny too.

"Children of Time"

"When the Defiant lands on a planet populated by the descendants of its crew, who will crash when it attempts to leave and end up three hundred years in the past, Sisko and his crew must choose between their lives and that of the community of their descendants. Ultimately, the decision is made for them by Odo, who refuses to let Kira die even to save thousands of others."

Time and destiny is such a complicated thing isnt it? The ending surprised me for several reasons. You knew that the crew was some how going to save the colonists in the end, and of course they fully intended on doing it. Having Odo change the flight path was a nice touch. I wish they had left that open, thinking it was either Dax or Odo.

That ending really pissed me off and ruined the whole episode for me. It was so uncharacteristic of Sisko to make that kind of decision, because he has always been such a "family first" guy throughout the whole series, then to just go on a limb and say "forget about all of your families at home" was just not part of his character. Poorly written, IMO.

Your in a very good stretch right now, probably the best in the series. The next 10 or so episodes are all excellent.

"Blaze of Glory"

"Sisko attempts to prevent Eddington from assisting in a Maquis attack which could bring reprisals against thousands. He rescues the final survivors of the Maquis, witnesses Eddington's death, and struggles with Eddington's accusations that the compromises of men like himself have led to the current threat to the Federation."

Great to see Eddington again. I couldn't believe that he pulled a fast one on Sisko again, he deserved to get punched. Eddington did die a hero and Sisko seemed to have a great deal of respect for him.

"Empok Nor"

"When O'Brien, Garak, Nog and a salvage team are stranded on a Cardassian space station, Garak suddenly becomes a different person."

When I first saw O'Brien's team I thought this episode was going to be told from their point of view. Thankfully, it was a horror story and they all got killed instead.

I think that episode was probably the most blatant case of redshirting any of the modern Treks ever did.

"In the Cards"

"Jake wants to buy a rare baseball card to raise his father's mood in the preamble to war with the Dominion, but finds that he has to lie, cheat, manipulate people, and risk an interstellar incident in order to get it."

A great little character episode. It really felt like the calm before the storm.

A funny little question I've always wondered about, with that episode. Do you think Weyoun bailed Jake out of the hot water he was in, for mouthing off about Winn? (It would've fit the pattern of "unusually nice" behavior everybody else was exhibiting, not to mention Weyoun is slimy enough to do that and then turn around and shoot at everybody a day later. ;) )
