oh and BTW... RDM's Battlestar Galactica rocks (even if Cally did annoy me... she was still a well written character).

Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is awesome. So is Helo.

Other annoyances... the entire cast and concept of nuBattlestar Galactica. Really, if you're going to mess around with the original this much, just call it something else, because it certainly wasn't authentic Battlestar Galactica.

Who the frak cares? OldBSG was a lame show that destroyed a good premise, it should be happy that its name has been used for a great show that fulfilled the potential of the premise. To quote Harlan Ellison's words to Ron Moore: "You took the worst SF show of all time and turned it into one of the best SF shows of all time."

I was not six years old the year Battlestar Galactica premiered (the real one). I was in high school (Grade 11). And while I thought some of the concepts in the show were simplistic pseudo-science, at least they made sense in the context of the show itself. As someone who was a teenager in the '70s, I don't mind the '70s fashion concepts. I enjoyed the series music. I thought Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict to be beyond cute. And even the annoying daggit saved everybody in the episode where Athena, Boomer, and a bunch of children were trapped in a fire aboard the ship. And Boxey eventually grew into Kent McCord, so what's the problem?

Well, this is certainly a compelling reason why oldBSG should be considered a quality show!

I was about 5 when I first watched oldBSG. It was a nice show to watch on weekend mornings with your mom, when you're 5 year old. And I remember Dirk Benedict's Starbuck was one of my first crushes. But that doesn't make it a good show for an adult audience.

I think the reason some find BSG characters annoying is because those characters are portrayed as human. They have flaws, they let their feelings guide them to make flawed choices, they can be selfish, etc etc.

The BSG characters are a lot more colorful then most of what Star Trek has ever put out. Star Trek characters work together and get along almost constantly. If they do have a fight then it is just a small rough patch that they quickly get through (Ex: Picard and Riker in "Pegasus")

Ron Moore injected a lot of humanity into BSG. Rarely do a group of people get along and function as well as a Star Trek crew or other standard millitary like sci fi crew of some kind. In fact a group of people functioning that well together is extremly rare. Most of us have jobs (I hope). Think about how well everyone at your work functions and works together. It can be a headache with some people being selfish, some guy might be great at his job but he is a a-hole and annoying to many. People are willing to step on one another to get a promotion or keep their position of power etc. They I mean how often do co-workers talk about how they could do so and so's job ten times better if given the chance? It happens all the time.

It isn't a dark view of humanity either. It is just we are too often given a too perfect and steralized version in Science Fiction. They ignore the human conflict.

Annoying and overrated, IMO.

Christopher Eccleston's Doctor too.

Nah, Tennant's far more annoying. Martha was excruciating, too.

I found the rest of the Torchwood crowd boring rather than annoying.

I find Captain Jack boring, annoying, and just plain worthless. I could never get into Torchwood, period. I don't like Tennant's Doctor, or the new Companions. Actually, I haven't really liked any of the Doctor's Companions since Grace (Eighth Doctor's Companion in the TV movie). And before that, I didn't like any of them after Tegan and Turlough.

But Christopher Eccleston was wonderful... and FANTASTIC! He made an excellent Doctor, and if you've ever had the chance to see him in the first Elizabeth movie (he played Norfolk)...

I haven't seen any of Tennant's last season, and only one or two episodes, ever, of his Doctor. His run just annoys me that much that I haven't watched them and I just don't care. The only episode I wish I'd seen is the one with Sarah Jane, because I liked her.

David Tennant was great as Tenth Doctor. Christopher Eccleston was brilliant as Ninth Doctor - as he has been brilliant in everything.

I'll sorta do my list on a franchise-by-franchise basis:

Byron from B5 (the clear overall winner, IMO)
