most annoying tv character in history

As for annoying: Old Christine. Yeesh!!! I didn't know Julia Louis-Dreyfus could get more grating, but she achieved it in spades.

Word.

Oh, goodness. WORD.

I can't believe they cancelled a brilliant show like "The Class" and let "Old Christine" stay on instead. <shudder>

Tony

Lila from Dexter. But she's a special case - she was deliberately cast and written to be annoying, so we wouldn't mind, err, what happens. ;)

That show can be very manipulative when you're sensitized to it.

Another one for Starbuck from NuBSG. Every time I see her on screen I pray for a hull breach near where she is standing.

I found Claire from Heroes to be very annoying as well. On that subject, the kid with the magic technology worky powers, I couldn't stand him in My Wife and Kids.

Byron would get my vote, but I actually found his last appearence on Babylon 5 redeemed him a bit in my eyes (not so much the VERY last thing he did, though, that was a bit over the top). And when I think of Wesley Crusher I think more of the wasted potential in that plotline instead of how annoying he was, so I can't hate on him too much.

I think I'm gonna throw my vote for Scrappy Doo, as well. Though I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ned Flanders.

^The trick is to meet Wil Wheton in person. He's such a genuinely nice person, especially when compared to most of the actors at cons who are cleary just there for a paycheck. (It also helps to watch old Doctor Who episodes with Adric in them. When it comes to annoying know-it-all kids, Wesley Crusher's got nothing on that kid.)

Any character played by Chris Elliot.

he's not completely useless

Okay, top of my list. I've never watched the show, don't even know the characters name. But just going from the endless ads on USA, it would have to be the lead character in The Starter Wife. All that mugging for the camera and 'wackiness' just makes me wanna choke a bitch.

Don't even know who see is - only seen a few eps and stopped watching "Lost" after the blacksmoke, love triangles and polar bears

You stopped watching after the first episode? ;)

I sure as hell did.

Well ya got me beat. I only just made it through the pilot before deciding I hated every single character.

Several companions of the Doctor have already been mentioned and I must admit I'm not far enough in my watching Classic Who to comment on them but I have to mention the Doctor's first companion here, his granddaughter Susan.

She used to bug me. Then I watched later episodes featuring the Time Lords and realized that most Gallifreyans are bloody useless outside their domed cities.

Welp, time to go on a Trek rant.

I didn't mind Wesley all that much once Roddenberry departed and they stopped with the 'Wesley saves the day' stories.

Neelix. The eternal perkiness just got on my damn nerves. Plus God help me, whenever I look at his head all I can think about is some bizarre variety of Fall squash.

Quark I could tolerate. But every time the damn Grand Nagus story rolled around I just wanted to hurt someone.

And speaking of the urge to kill. Troi's mother. :klingon:

And any female added to a Trek show in order to 'sex things up'. You all know who I mean.

I thought "Whelp" is something done to newborn dogs?

Okay, among the two overblown perceptions in Trek, which is greater:

The number of women Kirk ACTUALLY romanced during an episode or
The number of time Wesley ACTUALLY saved the day?

As for annoying characters, Urkel, the nerd kid in Family Matters. He wasn't FUNNY annoying, he was just "steamroller fodder" annoying.

Well lets see, off the top of my head I can come up with The Naked Now, and The Big Goodbye come to mind. I guess the sheer stupidity of both scenes made a pretty big impression.

I'll take yyour word on Urkel though. I've never had the misfortune to experience the little bastard.

I'll sorta do my list on a franchise-by-franchise basis:

Byron from B5 (the clear overall winner, IMO)

Runner-ups:
Dylan from Andromeda
Wesley Crusher (or really, any Trek child star save Jake and Nog), Neelix and Hoshi from TNG, VOY and ENT, respectively.
Owen from Torchwood
Teyla from Stargate: Atlantis
River from Firefly
Juul from Farscape
Lana Lang from Smallville
Cally from nuBSG
Dawn from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Isabelle Tyler from The 4400
Tess from Roswell

^I'll agree with some of those. I can't stand Lana Lang or Dawn Summers. However, I always liked Owen Harper in spite of himself.

And Tess was supposed to be off-putting. It was all leading up to the revelation of her betrayal at the end of Season 2.

anyone from Dawson's creak
all of the osbournes
elmo
both Will & Grace
barney
kelso, turk and janitor scrubs
miss piggy
All of the Gilmore Girls

and this turd

Harry Kim, because he was portrayed by that slacker Garrett Wang.

If it were any other competent Asian American actor, I would give this character a pass, but with the casting of Garrett in the role it appeared so obvious to a good number of viewers that he was cast just to fill a token slot out of political correctness, rather than hiring a serious Asian American actor in the role that they wanted to develop along with the rest of the ensemble.

Of course, save for 3 major characters, 7 other major characters were underdeveloped/underutilized on Star Trek: Voyager, so the casting of Garrett was pretty much par for the course in terms of the overall quality of that show.

Rom from DS9. What a bloody idiot.

Leeta from DS9. Another bloody idiot.

Woolsey from SG-1. His appearance in Heroes Pt.2 made me so mad. I just hated him so damn much, and I hated that the script didn't seem interested in giving him the comeuppance he so richly deserved.

Starbuck from nuBSG. I wish she'd just shut the hell up. I don't want to hear that earbleed-inducing laugh or that shrill whine, and I'm glad I only have to endure it for another half a season.

Lock from Lost. I liked the guy early on, but his 'one with the island' crap fills me with homicidal intent.

Any character played by Michelle Rodriguez. I mean, they're all the same: hot latino chick who hangs with the boyz and kicks some serious azz!

Melissa George's character in Alias. I forget her name. I don't forget that she drove me up the wall.

That stupid kid from Surface. The one that found that lizard monster thing and decided to keep it at all costs. Hands up who didn't want him to die horribly?

That stupid kid from Jericho (wait, are they the same actor? I don't care enough to look it up). What an irritatingly obnoxious, spoilt, little turd.

Rom:  Yeah, a real idiot and they make him an engineering savant and then Grand Nagus?! And, yeah, Leeta. But at least she was hot.

Lock from Lost. I liked the guy early on, but his 'one with the island' crap fills me with homicidal intent.

My like for Locke has shifted back and forth. Being Mr. Island in Season 1 was cool but since he's just been a big douche and a little TOO "in tune" with the island.

She always plays a character with an over abundance of 'tude. Go away Michelle Rodriguez!

Ahhh. Frodo Jr. I remember him. Yeah, I kept waiting for the monster to bite his face off!
