Moments on TNG that make you cringe.

If we ignore season 1, then personally I'm struggling to think of examples that haven't already been covered, so I'll add only this: is anything from TNG as cringy as DS9's 'Move Along Home'?

Unfair comparison, because "MOVE ALONG HOME" was a good episode. But if you want a cringey DS9 episode: use "PROFIT AND LACE", the second worst episode of DS9.

And I've got an easy TNG contender: "Sub Rosa".

(Though "Sub Rosa" STILL manages to be better than "PROFIT AND LACE". At least it was well shot with a nice horror/creepy vibe.)

Strangely, Profit and Lace is an episode I still haven’t seen, after all this time.

Sub Rosa is bad but it's fun-bad like a bad TOS episode. Which is also how I feel about a lot of S1 TNG as well. I'd take that over boring-bad like Voyager, early ENT, or early DS9.

Just remember, TNG might have had its cringy moments... but compared to the following pre-TNG mega-cringe scene, I think it showed considerable progress.

Currently rewatching TNG and am up to season 7, "Gambit, Part 1". Good lord, that entire scene with Riker and Troi was absolutely awful. Marina and Jonathan acted so poorly that for a minute it actually felt like I was watching some high school drama production. I don't think I've ever cringed so much at a Trek scene...in forever...and I say that as a survivor of Enteprise's decon scenes and Malcolm Reed in "Shuttlepod One".

Also, not cringe worthy, but I hated that the scene of Crusher after Picard's supposed 'death' was cut in favour of it.

I’d say whenever Frakes or Sirtis are called on to play melodrama then it all gets a bit panto. It’s neither of their strength.

Case in point, The scene you mention in Gambit where the two are arguing about the appropriate action to take after Picard’s death.

The scene turns into this overwrought shouting match when it would have been better played quietly and thoughtfully.
