This one's better - he even seems to be saying "haterz gonna hate"
I'm sure they did it deliberately 
even so its been a blast seeing all the new fanart and memes, and all from one episode.
Discord really is simply messing with them, but his power is all superficial and trickery, no Pinkamina, no PyschoShy, being unable to reach the true core of Pinkie and Fluttershys "soul", and having seemingly no way to corrupt Twilights "elusive and powerful" element.
Once the mane 6 snap out of his little glamour, they're really going to kick his ass. Possibly the source of that "triumphant Twilight" pose we saw before the season started?

Don't have much to say, because it's already been said. To be honest the mane reason I'm posting is to mark this thread is so it's easier for me to continue following

But yes, the first episode was great- nice to see that the show hasn't lost any of its 'magical' touch, and interesting to see another darker start to the season. Maybe it'll become a running theme that at the start of each year there's an episode like this with an enemy of some description. That is, if there are more seasons, which there better be!

I don't know. Somehow I have the feeling that Discord is either going to surrender himself to Celestia's mercy and be sent to a nearby celestial body or non-violently turned into a statue, or he's going to flee and become the series's main villain for a while. It's still a kid's show after all, bronies aside

Agreed. He's going to have to either "get away" or sometime in the future, find a way to break whatever trap spell is put on him. I'd love to see more of him in the future. De Lancie is just too much win to be defeated permanently.
I hope they don't get rid of him. He has to come back to annoy them every once in a while.
I'm halfway expecting a twist at the end where he turns out not as evil as he first seems. Maybe, like Q, it turns out he's doing this to help them in some perverted way. It would be consistent with his trickster persona, that there's more going on that it looks like.
I was also thinking, "This is something Q would have done." He's evil, but not that evil.
But we had that backstory about him enslaving the world and bringing misery to everyone. He may not be pure evil, but he's still evil.
My money's on him escaping at the end of the episode and becoming a recurring villain. Infrequently recurring, but still recurring.
Discord loves hurting people, its his entire persona essentially, I think maybe the Elements will be recovered, the Ponie set right, but they'll do something to him that removes much of his power or restricts it. So that he can return and cause trouble, but not be the god of chaos he was before.

I hope there's a definitive ending to the Disqord story line - not him dying (although is being made into a stone statue or displaced to the moon any better?), but not something too open-ended. If he returns again somehow, fine, De Lancie is awesome. But don't castrate him and make him something like a mean Jar Jar or whatever. He's a villain, let him be villainy.
