Merch Beyond!

Thanks for drawing my attention to the existence of these. After a quick search it appears that they're not available in the UK, except on Amazon and ebay at inflated prices. Luckily I have a friend on holiday in the states at the moment and got him to pick one up at Walmart for me for $5.

Strangely at the moment the three biggest toy retailers over here (Toys R Us, Smyth's Toys and The Entertainer) have NO Star Trek merch at all.

That's pretty cool! What's on the blu-rays?

I got the one on the left in Sainsbury's for 1 quid pretty much exactly one year ago. Little one loves starships, it was in the box and literally appeared in my hand as I was reaching for a car for him while shopping. He was overjoyed. So they must be about somewhere (no, it's not in its box...someone has to play with these toys to make the ones that survive go up in value,)

I had the feeling they were about the equivalent of the old MicroMachine toys from the 1990s.

The micromachine toys from the 90's were better quality. The Enterprise from them is beside this new one on my shelf.

A friend of mine got the 50th Beyond hot wheels enterprise for $5, he still felt he overpaid until I showed him what $3 got me and that in store the hot wheels model is $20 here. Now he thinks he got a good deal:hugegrin:

Looks like I missed the boat then! Still, $5 is about £3 so I'm happy with that.

I had loads of the old Micro Machines ships as a kid, no idea what happened to them. I particularly liked the Borg Cube and the Romulan Warbird. I remember breaking the nacelle off the Reliant and having to get my dad to glue it back on for me.

It amuses me that they're still called 'Hot Wheels' when they have no wheels... shouldn't they be called 'Ample Nacelles' or something instead?

Funny you should say that..I kept my micro machines well preserved if unboxed....

And now I am the dad who glues them together since they have been thoroughly toddlered.

I had two Playmates Abrams Enterprise's that my then-toddler son played with until they fell apart. Found another on Ebay about a year ago that I now have on my shelf and is safe now that he is older. :techman:

In addition to the multi-disc set, I also just ordered these from someone on ebay. That picture looks decent. some of the hot wheels individual Enterprises looked worse. It's the only current known model of the Justin Lin version of the JJprise.

RAMA
Went to see Mag 7 today, they were still advertising the cup toppers on the screens so I asked about them. Kid working was new, didn't know anything about them. I went back after the movie, the person on cash then said they still had them (not a good sign). I picked up the E. The only one I was interested in, add it to my Constitution Class parking zone. $3. It's the quality of a dollar store toy. I'm fine with spending $3 on it but would not recommend people spending $30 to get the special edition blue ray with it.

My little one starship collection is better than mine. Eaglemoss started their set at just the right time, and once a week he gets a few down to fly gently then we put them back. They are definitely his ships though. He has a Voyager, a defiant, a delta flyer, and at one point two enterprise d (down to one after an incident involving a warp engine and a toaster) that are his steadfast companions. I believe he was 2 when he got his first one. People thought he had wonky eyes the way he would hold it up to his face and squint and move it about. It turned out, as they noticed when we had it on TV, he was just recreating the shots in the TNG credits and various fly boys lol.
He's had a starship at every birthday too...diamond select ones when they are reduced price on Amazon, and the kreo jjprise last year. He just loves them so much it's hard not to encourage it. He probably knew what a navigational deflector was before he knew what his elbows were called lol.

(Yes...collectors items...but how do you think rarity goes up people? :D )

I just wish action figures were more readily available, I can't locate my old ones now, and the kelvin universe ones are naff and fragile. We do have a vintage Bellana and a First Contact Deanna Troi, but he's lost interest in those.

I did the same thing with my FASA minis

Friend's back from the States and he's dropped my Enterprise round for me:

Don't know exactly what I was expecting but it's a little lower quality than I thought it'd be. I guess it's good enough for a £3 toy, though. The paint job's not too great in places and one of the nacelles seems a little bent. Trying to decide whether or not to open it, I wanted it for my shelf of interesting items but it seems a shame to open it now. What to do...

The local wal-mart has all bout ran out of these. They sold better than some of the SW ships.

Your local store running low on stock doesn't mean they sold better than Star Wars. It just means they don't have many in stock. An equally valid interpretation would be that they sold so poorly that the Walmart didn't order any replacements while SW is selling so well they ordered in tons of inventory for Christmas.
