The reason Portman was upset with Marvel was because she signed to do the Dark World due to the fact that it was supposed to be directed by Patty Jenkins, a director whose work she admired. Then Jenkins left the project and Natalie was stuck doing a movie that she no longer had the same enthusiasm for. All Marvel needed to do to bring her back was team her up with a director whose works she likes, such as Taika Waititi, and he's not going anywhere. This notion that she's coming back because she's needs the money or the work is ridiculous on multiple levels.
Also, one of the complaints I have seen most often from Portman about the films is she isn't keen on acting to green screens since your performance is always imaginary rather than acting to an environment you can see, I imagine a lot of others have had the same comments one time or another.

Put. Her phone. It stopped RINGING!!!!1!

Alas, as the years go by, I find the classic horror stars of yore are blurring into one collective Old-Time Horror Movie Guy as far as the general public is concerned: Boris Lugosi Chaney Jr. :)

That's a hilariously timely comment. Marvel published this just yesterday:

Take Superman, so many that anyone claiming a definitive version is laughable. Times change, actors come and go.

I thought there was a considerable consensus that Routh and Cavill were underwhelming compared to Christopher Reeve and didn't emerge from his shadow and even most of the fans of Cain, Welling and Cavill still liked Reeve more or at least felt, at worst, that he was also really good.

Not really. Their movies were underwhelming, but the general consensus is that the actors were both excellent in the role, or could've been if they hadn't been let down by the material.

And let's be honest here. Reeve is the best onscreen Superman to date, but he only appeared in 1.5 good Superman movies. His series started great and declined precipitously from then on.

Yeah, IMO would have been a rock solid 2 had Donner been able to finish Superman 2. I am a huge fan of the Donner cut!

That's terrible! I mean, even a lazy Google search will provide writers with accurate information!

One of the tragic ironies of our time is that, at a point in history when it's easier to look this stuff up than ever before, fewer people seem inclined to do so.

I did score a minor victory a few years back. I was hired to write the hardcover jacket copy for a historical romance set back in the 1960s. At one point the hero takes his lady-love to the movies to see "yet another British vampire movie starring Peter Cushing as Dracula."

I was actually moved to write a note to the book's editor along the lines of "Look, I know this is none of my business, that I was just hired to write the jacket copy, not copyedit the manuscript, but can you please, please, PLEASE fix that line on p. 262 about Peter Cushing playing Dracula. The author clearly means Christopher Lee, but got the name wrong."

I was assured it would be fixed before the book went to press. Never had the nerve to check to see if it was. :)

I don't think the MCU was really "missing out" by not having Portman.

Nobody cared

Don't presume to speak for anyone but yourself.

Jane was Hella interesting to me and I'm very glad Marvel Studios mended their relationship with Natalie.

Lmao reaching

She had literally zero character and was played by an actress dialing in a wooden performance

The only people who claim to have missed her are just ones who are stoked over femi-thor. I bet a week ago they hadn't given Jane foster a thought in years.

You're free to dislike Natalie's Jane, but don't come at me for having a different opinion.

For me, one of the things that made Thor's character arc in his solo movie debut work as well as it did was his interplay with Jane and Selvig, and my favorite aspect of The Dark World's plot was Jane being possessed by The Aether because it not only built on what the first film had established with both her and Thor, but made the stakes in that movie personal for him.

My biggest takeaway from Natalie's return is that she's coming back at all. The fact that Marvel Studios is adapting the Mighty Thor comic run as part of her return is just a bonus.

Christopher...you really should have done the WHOLE quote...his point is WELL taken. i too think Cavill was an excellent choice for the role, and get that "Superman feel" especially from Justice League...but like Suareguy said, Reeve's shadow is strong... where as Reeves was one generation's Superman, and Reeve another... Cavill, unfortunately due to bad characterization, won't be thought of as fondly ... whereas i think Gal Gadot will be this generation's Wonder WOman as Lynda Carter was for another.

Routh, too was a good choice....and to this day am still stunned how Bryan SInger didn't make a great movie. my expectations were perhaps way too inflated, based on what i thought was an excellent adaptation of X-Men, as him being a fan of Superman, i had really high hopes.
