I missed that one. I just don't think The Collector is dead, but like Sam Sterns, he may never be seen again.
Ah, that was an underappreciated classic. It follows Thanos from his resurrection in the Silver Surfer and leads directly into the original Infinity Gauntlet event. At that time, all of the Infinity Gems (not "Stones") were in the possession of the Elders and Thanos challenged everyone of them and defeated them all. The Elders never stood a chance.

For generations, perhaps, but, as it much as it pains me to say this because Karloff is one of my very favorite actors, ask somebody under the age of 30 who "Boris Karloff" is and they will probably give you a blank look or, just as likely, confuse him with Bela Lugosi or Vincent Price or one of the Lon Chaneys. They'll recognize the classic Jack Pierce makeup as "Frankenstein," sure, but will they know who played him in what movie? Probably not.

I think that's a case by case thing; some younger people actually learn details about the movies they watch--particularly if they end up loving the film, and in the case of Karloff, that's another way the actor becomes the face of a character. Even a film not as old--Donner's Superman--has many across generations still crowning Reeve as the filmed "greatest" Superman, no matter how many followed. So, in some cases, an actor can "own" role to the point where anyone else is instantly compared to / judged against that one performance, and its usually negative..

I'm not sure Snipes as Blade occupies the same rarified space as Karloff's Monster or Reeve's Superman, but he made a pretty big impression on audiences in that first film; even a number of comic fans who were familiar with the printed version thought he was great. So, its understandable why some fans were not performing cartwheels over the casting of the new Blade.

Alas, as the years go by, I find the classic horror stars of yore are blurring into one collective Old-Time Horror Movie Guy as far as the general public is concerned: Boris Lugosi Chaney Jr. :)

Now, that's just criminal! :D

October can be rough for me. Pretty much every newspaper, magazine, and website feels obliged to run articles on spooky stuff, but increasingly those article are written by folks who seem to have never actually seen an old Boris Karloff movie or are at best relying on foggy memories of maybe having seen one on the Late Show as a kid. So you end up with articles in which Bela Lugosi played the Mummy or a photo of Lon Chaney Jr. is captioned "Boris Karloff" or that talks about all those old Hammer movies starring Peter Cushing as Dracula . . . .

My poor girlfriend has to listen to me grumbling and snarling for a month. "That was Christopher Lee, damnit, not Peter Cushing. And it's Claude Rains, not 'Raines,' grumble, grumble." :)

As for Blade . . . given that Snipes last played Blade fifteen years ago, and nobody liked the third movie anyway, it doesn't strike me as too soon to recast the part. And I give Snipes credit for graciously giving his blessing to the new guy, just like Lynda Carter gracefully passed the tiara and golden lasso onto Gal Gadot.

(I rather suspect that the actual actors, who go into the business knowing that they can't play Romeo forever and will eventually ending up playing King Lear, are more practical about such transitions than some audience members.)

That's terrible! I mean, even a lazy Google search will provide writers with accurate information!

Oh, I agree that Snipes not making a fuss over it is nice on his part. I guess it will remain to be seen which Blade is the best, because we know the second teasers are dropped, the comparisons will shoot from every direction.

Is it too much to hope to have both The Grandmaster and The Collector together on this one? I mean, we never saw a body for the latter (unless I missed something), and surely the idea of those two actors bouncing off each other after their character having their little fiefdoms taken away has far too much comedy potential to pass up! ;)
I don't know if it was any good, but one of the novels they released leading up to Infinity War, did focus on The Collector and The Grandmaster teaming up after losing their little fiefdoms.

I'm really looking forward to the new Dr Strange

I still hope Thor will be a part of Guardians 3 as I love him and have no interest in 40 year old washed up no career Portman coming in as "lady thor"

....

She had a best actress nomination in 2017. "What have you done for me lately" taken to the extreme, lol

She's making no money

Portman "im done with marvel"

Phone "stops ringing"

Portman "sure I'll give the MCU another go"

She's making no money

She made three Star Wars movies and two marvel movies. She has ALL the money she could ever need. She has made a lot of movies, movies she was interested in doing.

She is in no way obligated to run her career as YOU think she should.

Portman "im done with marvel"

Phone "stops ringing"

She's been involved in 14 films since Thor: the Dark World, either as an actress or as a producer or both, including one that gave her an Oscar nomination. Hardly a "phone stops ringing."

Portman "sure I'll give the MCU another go"

Marvel: Hey, we got an idea for you to do something other than be a damsel in distress...
Portman: M'k. Sounds interesting.

The reason Portman was upset with Marvel was because she signed to do the Dark World due to the fact that it was supposed to be directed by Patty Jenkins, a director whose work she admired. Then Jenkins left the project and Natalie was stuck doing a movie that she no longer had the same enthusiasm for. All Marvel needed to do to bring her back was team her up with a director whose works she likes, such as Taika Waititi, and he's not going anywhere. This notion that she's coming back because she needs the money or the work is ridiculous on multiple levels.

This. All of this.

Updated debunking the story.
I just saw this on io9. Now I'm sad. :(

I imagine being regulated to a Macguffin for half of the film soured her experience with the film, so it's no surprise she would return to the role to become a more active superhero!
