Major League Baseball 2009

Some guy named Eric O'Flaherty for the Braves. Never heard of him before, but I think he just shot himself in the foot if he was looking for a job.

Curt Schilling officially retired today, if anyone is interested. Not quite HoF numbers, unless you give more weight to his fantastic Post-Season stats, which tend to indicate that he's money when it counts, but all in all, a great career.

I'd put him in the Hall of Fame, but I am biased there (before he was a great Diamondbacks and Red Sox pitcher, he was a great Phillies pitcher). Honestly, there are few pitchers as clutch as Shilling was (and as hard-working).

I think if a player is famous, he belongs in the Hall of Fame. I think Curt has had his name thrown around enough to count.

I'm hoping for the Reds starting rotation to be a force this year. For that to happen, Cueto needs to improve upon his rookie season, Arroyo needs to lose his guitar, Harang has to forget about last season and return to the form he had in 2007, and Volquez just has to do what he did last year. If all of them pitch like they are capable of, anything they get out of the 5th spot in the rotation is pure gravy.

Have to disagree there. I'm not saying stats alone should be the determining factor, but name recognition shouldn't come into play. I still think if Bert Blyleven had played for someone other than the Twins, he'd be in already. The numbers are there, but he's constantly passed over.

Does anyone here subscribe to the MLB Extra Innings package? I'm thinking of picking it up this year, but before I spend $160, I wouldn't mind a second opinion from someone who's had it before.

^^ I guess it all depends on how much baseball you would watch. Last year (or was it the year before?) Direct TV gave the MLB package for free the month of September. It was neat being able to flip around and check out all the games, but after the novelty wore off, I don't think I watched any more than I usually do.

The best thing about it would be if you lived outside of your team's market, and would finally be able to catch all their games.

There are many times where I wish I could have watched Cubs games last year near the end of the season when the Braves gave up. I wish there were cheaper packages for just a team or a division.

I'm looking into MLB.TV. I'm wondering if anyone here has tried it. It would sure help me decide whether to scrap my cable TV service.

I could see my Metsies while living near Boston. Plus watch the best game of the night. I'd watch a couple innings of a Mets game most nights at least.

"Metsies"... :guffaw:

So, psyched about Citi Field? I sure am. I can't wait. Looks like a sweeeeeeeeeet place to play.

If Curt Schilling gets in the Hall before Ron Santo or Andre Dawson, I will ruin so many lives.

Yeah I am. It's a pain to get down there since I live in the Boston area, but I can work it in to visiting my parents for the weekend so it's not that bad. I'm going April 25 so its only a few more weeks.
