Spoilers Main Title Sequence

The Enterprise title sequence is one of my favorites visually.
Mine too. Visually.

Though for me, my absolutely favorite is second season TOS (original VFX, original soundtrack).

I find the Michelangelo reference at the end cringeworthy.
My initial reaction to the Michelangelo:

The reference to The Creation of Adam clashes with the idea that people are atheists in the future. TOS made it clear that not everyone's an atheist, and both TOS and TOS films (and TAS for that matter) were willing to explore religious themes, and they made numerous religious references. But it's pretty clear that the so-called Berman-era shows approached religion markedly differently. Right out of the gate, TNG was critical of religion in "Encounter at Farpoint" (not just because it led to murder, but also because the characterization of "tribal god-images" is intrinsically derogatory). So, is this a sign that DSC will hew closer to TOS in its treatment of religion?

On the other hand (ha!), this isn't a representation of one being creating another, but rather of two co-equal beings reaching for each other. The reference to Michelangelo is clear, but the fact that the hands are co-equal makes it stand in contrast, hewing towards Escher's Drawing Hands. There could be many possible explanations for this, but assuming that the artists know what they are doing, it could be intentionally implying cooperation between different beings to realize their own destiny. Note that one hand is red and the other is blue. @CorporalClegg has already noted the possibility that blue will symbolize the Federation and red will symbolize the Klingons. So, taking all that and running with it, this could symbolize a truce between the Federation and Klingons.

Or it could be something else entirely....

It's... ok.

The Michelangelo didn't even register with me. Time to turn in that art degree. :(

Rewatched it. I like the original music, without the tacked-on classic Trek music at the start and the end, and I love the visuals.

My favourite bit is the classic phaser exploding and reforming as the new version. It's an acknowledgement of the visual reboot. "Remember these? They look like this now."

Disappointing. It looks like a Netflix title sequence, I was hoping for something more traditional and bombastic.

What the hell was that? I wasn't sure if I was watching a Star Trek intro, or the Six Million Dollar Man mixed with Game of Thrones (in this case, two rights made a wrong).

I think it's just another excuse to not show off Discovery until the actual episode. I wonder if we'll actually ever see the ship, other than that shot of it going to warp (which will be reused endlessly like special effects in a 1970s Universal sci-fi show).

Yeah. I'm sorry. I can say that opening sequence was objectively horrible. The only thing that can make me change my mind is if the Discovery actually does encounter a giant, ship-eating, space flower.

Huh? I think we saw plenty of it in that video.

How about an amoeba or a giant hand?

Even the visuals say "we don't know what this show's identity is beyond 'new Star Trek show.'" It is literally half-finished blueprints turning into half-finished props and costumes.

What the fuck is DSC actually about?
About discovery

It's like watching manual at first. Diagrams and schematics. The star ship looks like a tool in this. Yeah, and the creation of Adam I don't dislike, but it's like seeing a page turn with just another image.

It's okay.
