Spoilers Main Title Sequence

I'm still trying to decide if I'm okay with it. It's very, very different and not at all what I expected, but I think I would be disappointed if it were what I expected.

Where I'm not sold is the phaser, communicator and mek'leths being included. That makes it feel less like an opening sequence and more like a props design video.

Ultimately it may grow on me.

Hmmm... it is different for Trek, but I actually kind of like it. Reminds me a bit of ENT at the beginning.

Honestly, I'm just glad it has an opening credits sequence rather than one of those quick 5 second title cards.

These days it seems only shows in the Law & Order franchise get full opening titles, and even they don't run as long as they once did. Then again I watch so little network television anymore I might be missing series with fairly lengthy opening credits. But given the trend of the broadcast networks in recent years I sort of doubt it.

I prefer title cards. Per my snark above, I hardly ever watch credits sequences anyway. Except for Buffy. And NCIS.

Oh and: Somebody SAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVEEEEEE MEEEEEEEEEEEEE... But that's law or something.

In fact, the one Trek show I'm most likely to stick around for the credits is Enterprise. True story.

Yeah, I pretty much only watch streaming and HBO, cable shows on BluRay. Most of them have long, kick-ass opening titles. I do wonder sometimes why putting the names to faces seems to be a lost art. I kept hoping back in the 90's for Trek to start allowing that, but then most all TV stopped doing it.

I really like it.

The phaser and communicator look out of place though. So does the mek'leth. Of all Trekkian iconography, why those three? Why not the split delta, the Federation logo thing, or...a tribble.

People seem really pumped about the opening credits. The visuals were cool, but the music...blah. Remember hearing the DS9 theme for the first time?

And I call no fair on using the fanfare or whatever you want to call it at the end of the theme. That belongs to the Enterprise, not Star Trek.

It was interesting. I got hyped with the opening pangs, but was let down when they went for a more subtle orchestral sound after that. Previous openings, even Enterprise, have been bombastic and loud, some might even say inspiring. This was quiet, and I'm not sure if that does good for the show or bad. I saw some inspiration from ENT with it, and being a stopgap between the TOS and Enterprise I can see why they went that route. I'm not sure what I will think of it after I've see it in action a few more times.

Theme music, fine... I actually like it. Title sequence, not that thrilled. I know it's "the new and improved" Star Trek, but the wireframe / sketch to morphs of phasers and communicators, the hand turning into Smokey lines - doesn't make me feel Star Trek in the least.

Whatever, I'm in for the long haul. I'll just fast forward through the title sequence I guess.

I do have to say it's very weird to hear longtime fans who weren't exactly the most vocal fans of Enterprise when it was on the air say that they like its theme and/or opening title sequence more than Discovery's. It's not a first to hear ENT get minor praise from skeptical Trekkies when comparing it to another series in the franchise but the theme song?

We have come a long way since 2005.

If you put my posts together, I did imply exactly that, didn't I, and it remains my position. I'm weirding myself out!

Somewhere right now, Scott Bakula and Connor Trinneer just broke out in wide grins and neither of them know just why.
