Spoilers Main Title Sequence

Love it. Music still hasn't wowed me. But none of the Trek themes have. TNG just ripped off TMP. DS9 and VOY themes were lethargic, dull and uninspired. And ENT's theme was utter shit. I'd just as soon Discovery pull a Babylon 5 and modify both theme and graphics each season.
Hmm, I have to disagree on Voyager. While it is my least favourite Trek series, Goldsmith's theme is grand and masterful, and for me it perfectly captures the flight into the unknown. I'd say it is probably the second best of the themes.

I thought the Voyager title sequence was the best. It was grand but it was also beautiful. Discovery looks almost bland in comparison.

I love the style of it. I agree there is a bit or a Westworld, or even a Fringe vibe to it, which I don't mind. I'm glad its very different then the Berman era stuff. I do think I would like it more if it was more about tracing space exploration back throughout history, but since Enterprise did something like that for its intro, I can see why they stayed away from that.

It is a war show, so the weapons are clearly going to be center stage to a large extent. I'd rather it not be a war show at all, but it is what it is.

I think their intention is for the show to be "about war", not necessarily a "war" show. That can make for a huge difference. I guess we'll find out tonight one way or the other.

1) I think that is the point.....this is NEW
2) I'm pretty sure nothing will be replaced with a dissolve into the next scene........
Yes and no. It is new for Star Trek. It is not new for modern TV. It pretty much rips off a good few other modern shows. But then I suppose that is to be expected, but it does slightly concern me as one thing I don't want for this show is for it to be trapped within modern TV tropes. The best thing about past Treks is they have held up over time and I would like it to be the case here as well.

I liked that, especially the pop-art elements. It definitely feels incomplete as it doesn't have any cast or crew credits, but the music works. It reminded me a little of Mad Men with the stylised look. I'm not sure it tells me anything about the show, other than it has Star Trek stuff in it.

Interesting the title caption is different to the one used in all the teasers and the marketing material.

I'm glad they didn't go for the obvious tracking shots of the ship in space. Obviously TOS is iconic, TNG took that and purposely updated it. Enterprise tried to do something different with the song, and setting the show in context of progress. DS9 and Voyager always felt a little bit uninspired, though they have terrific theme music.

I don't like these opening credits at all!

However, the only Trek opening credits I like are DS9 season 4 - 7 and VOY. So disliking opening credits is not much of an actual issue for me.

Loving the style and looks of this! Too soon to say if it fits into the themes and style of the show. Then again, some fans have already decided they know what this show is about, so I understand they're (again) judging to soon here. Perhaps they'll actually wait and see if it fits into an actual episode before they judge?

It's just the first season that is about war, no? I think the problem in making about war is that when it comes to things like the title sequence it seems a bit conflicted. You have the ship flying about like the TOS Enterprise, boldy going. But then you have the war elements, which feel like they take away a bit from the exploratory nature of the ship.Still, I'm more interested in how it pans out during the episodes themselves.

Since every previous Star Trek series has had space shots in their opening sequences, I admit i like the decision not to use any. People know Star Trek is set in space, so why not take the opportunity to do something different?

That said, the opening theme is pretty unremarkable. There are bits of it that reminded me a little of Michael Giacchino's work for the KT movies. Other than that, and those last few seconds, I can't really recall any of it. As I sit here trying to remember it, other Trek scores keep coming to mind.

I'm fine with it. It's not my favourite, but it is certainly a new and unique style. That's pretty much done right in my books.

Wait till you've sat through it at least fifteen times plus reruns. :techman:

I don't think I've ever sat through anything from Star Trek that many times. You'rev talking to someone who has legitimately walked away from Star Trek at one point for a good two or three years.

Yeah, they've said the war will be resolved by the end of the season.
