Spoilers Rick & Morty - S9 now streaming

Didn't seem to be an active thread for Rick & Morty (apologies if I missed it and Mods please merge if so)

S9 has just kicked off (HBO in UK, not sure what platforms elsewhere)

Thoughts so far:

1)

Right out the gate we have a Star Trek reference - Rick describes himself as Q...and describes Q as a "Cosmic gay guy obsessed with chess" and I can't argue with it, especially after Pic S2

Evil Morty is back and the back and forth with "Our Morty" has fun energy - Evil Morty is definitely working the "affably evil" character

3) Has retained the "grey" morality well and a good level of snark

4) Visuals and pacing feel on point

Rick and Evil Morty's super sci fi opening battle hits the various anime/Marvel styles we've come to expect and is suitably fun

Opening bad guy gets taken down SGA vs Pegasus Replicators style

I'd like more of Bunker Gene in my life

It is kind of required for the show's premise but Morty is back to his "woe is my, I'm so stupid" but fortunately doesn't overdo it

Overall a bit light on plot but also doesn't massively need one as all the moving parts were already kind of in place to make it a fun "lets see how much sci fi tech and weapons we can fit in" episode

Good use of the weird testicle time police guys "I want this kid processed yesterday" is a great line

Solid 8/10 opening episode

Compared to the lore they had built the previous seasons it felt like a bit of a fluff episode. Kinda disappointed but the show has been weak since last season. They don't seem to care about bigger stories anymore.

It felt like an episode that was there to just be a comfort food opener that leant heavily on people knowing the lore and almost re-establishing everyone's character and the sandbox they are working in

Well @Weyoun 251 what did you think of that one?

I liked this, it actually feels like something they might have done in earlier seasons with Rick. Kinda depressing but good Rick episodes are.

BTW, did you know they are making a Rick and Morty movie? That should be a fun watch hopefully.

Think the season as a whole has been really strong - and this week's episode might be an all time great!

Such a fun episode and such a great concept

I just watched the last episode. And it was so devoid of imagination. It's unbelievable that the Rick and Morty writers have run out of imagination. They basically took the same "we did drugs, got high, and did this nonsense" trope that every American teen show has and written an episode based on it.

I thought Rick and Morty season 9 overall was good, maybe the best since the early seasons. I actually have not seen ep 8 yet. Mortgully was amazing and I loved the deconstruction of the "Five finger death punch". The finale itself was kind of boring, it just rehashed previous emotional themes.

I also watched the first episode of President Curtis. It's okay. It feels like the American Dad of Rick and Morty. But it has the ingredients to be funny.
