Spoilers MacGYVER reboot review thread

Ah whoops. I though Aiden Quinn was Lestrade.

No, he's Thomas Gregson -- based on another recurring Scotland Yard inspector from the canon, Tobias Gregson. Gregson was the one member of the Yard that Holmes actually had some respect for -- pretty much the anti-Lestrade.

Lestrade only made a few guest appearances, and is unlikely to return now that Sean Pertwee is a regular on Gotham. Holmes and Watson work with Detective Marcus Bell and report to Captain Gregson.

And Joan Watson is played by the perfect woman Lucy Liu

I don't recall any more if I have already written here that I dislike that show.

So this is what I think about MacGyver: I dislike that show.
I have never been a big MacGyver fan, I watched the shows with scifi-stuff like Kitt or Airwolf (and Loveboat). So I didn't compare the new show with the old one.

But it's nothing special here. It's three or four days ago and I don't even remember much of it. There was an exploding boat.

And I found the black waffle-maker/cook/whatever/room-mate a little odd. What was that and why did he wear his uniform all the time? And how can a waffle-maker/cook afford such a house? I probably didn't pay enough attention. What's MacGyver's secret identity?

Another thing that comes to mind: That one guy did know that the Phoenix was a bird but not the mythology behind it? How can that be? Oh, so that MacGyver can explain it to the audience. Wow, such a smart guy!

I liked the Rolling Stones Song with the orchestra but that was another show.

So, nothing special here but things I've seen a thousand times before. I wonder how long it takes till it gets cancelled.

I'd like to see a reboot of Seven Days.......

Come on Paramoount it's been around 15 years and you haven't put that show on DVD even, when so much other crap gets put on DVD why not that or did they lose all the rights to the show?

It's called Timeless. It premiered this past monday.

I know I heard about that on here actually. Waiting to see what people think of it.

Still that show should have come onto DVD or bluray years ago. I don't understand why they won't put that show out when they put out so much other stuff that isn't good.

Riley is probably the most fascinating character of the bunch. With a few tweaks, the show could have been about her as Mac's daughter. In that case, they could have even brought back Richard Dean Anderson as the original Mac, something they can't do now.

I dunno about "fascinating," but she is pretty nice to look at. By the way, the actress was in a couple of Supergirl episodes last season as Maxwell Lord's assistant.

They could always bring him back as a different character. Heck, New MacGyver has referred to his grandfather twice now in narration, and Richard Dean Anderson is in the same age range now that John Anderson (no relation) was when he played the original Mac's grandfather. So maybe they're hoping to get RDA to play Grandpa Harry.

Why can't they bring RDA back as the original Mac for a cameo or something?

Because it's not in the same reality as the original show. It's a reboot. New MacGyver couldn't meet Original MacGyver unless he somehow managed to make an interdimensional teleporter out of duct tape and coat hangers.

So of course RDA could appear, but it would be as a different character, like John Wesley Shipp playing Henry Allen in The Flash, or Richard Hatch playing Tom Zarek in Battlestar Galactica. And now that I've thought of it, Grandpa Harry seems the obvious choice. He's a pre-existing part of the mythos, he's already been name-dropped twice in as many episodes, and RDA is pretty much perfect for the role now.

Hmmmm well that might well work.

BTW I was watching an old episode online and was surprised to see Henry Winkler named as one of the producers of the old series.

Yeah, he went into producing in the '80s. It was mostly TV movies and specials and a couple of other, more obscure series, though he was also a producer on Barry Levinson's Young Sherlock Holmes and an executive producer on Rob Reiner's The Sure Thing, both in 1985. He's also listed as an executive producer on the new MacGyver along with the original show's creator Lee David Zlotoff, though it's probably just as the "we own the property" kind of executive producer rather than as active participants in the production.

He didn't, not during the original series. I think the suggestion is that Riley is young enough that she could have been a daughter born sometime after the original series.
ahh lol ok. I rewatched a few seasons of the original a few months back and when it aired but I never recalled him having a child.

In the second-last episode, he discovered he had an adult son, Sean Angus "Sam" Malloy. Sam would be about 45 now.
